TV History

This Farnsworth Photomultiplier tube listed by his son on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Farnsworth-T...item258995eec8 How important is this tube in the history of Television? This is more of a Television history question then curbside posting. I have purchased several RCA and Baird photomultipliers in the $10-$15 range over the years.

In that envelope on that base I seriously doubt it was made in the 30s.

IIRC the 8 pin octal base was introduced in 1936 so that is likely the earliest it could have been made.

Farnsworth's prototype TVs of the latter 1930s were still full of fat-pin tubes. If you're familiar with the company's relationship with octal-tube-proponent RCA, that's not surprising.
