panasonic ag 1970 video input problem
 

Hi
my ag 1970 has red lines & its a liilte bit fuzzy on the screen when i hook a vcr or sat/ box to the input
it does not matter if it's the front or back inputs it does the same thing

the playback picture is fine

so i dont know if it's bad caps of if it could be something else

i also tried another power supply out of a different ah 1970 & the same thing still happens so i dont thing it's that

Video board needs new surface-mount caps on green IC board. Common problem on all Panasonic G-chassis decks. Not repairable.

do you know what the board looks like maybe it can be replaced

It should be a K-chassis deck. Surface mount caps can be replaced. The later AG-1980 has the same problems with capacitors.

K-chassis and G-chassis were both built on the same platform, except the K-chassis used two timing chain belts designed for editing, but they're both prone to surface-mount caps failure. Panasonic's previous two-belt chassis mechanism from the mid-80s didn't have this type of problem.

ok what board should I be looking at to try & replace caps

It's the first board at the right side hanging vertically shown on the photo, with the blue-color chip at the bottom. There are two hybrid IC boards hanging on top with it with multiple solder joints. There are silver-color surface mount caps underneath them. Do you see them?

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an easy repair job and NOT worth fixing. You need to unsolder all 30-50 joints for two boards, and it's very difficult to put them back in. You're better off buying another AG-1970.

yes I see it. seems like to much work
i'll just have to wait until another one shows up on ebay ones on there right now are too much money
this one is in great shape on the outside it even came with the manual & remote. it still plays fine
it's just that the input does not have a good picture

Is the board in question the Y/C separation (comb filter) board? If so, the equivalent board in the AG-1980 is the source of all kinds of playback woes. It has 30+ capacitors on it that usually fail, but nothing covering them to prevent repair. Someone over at videohelp had a AG-1970 with a dead comb filter with its share of problems.
