JIL (Jutan International Limited) Concerto model JCTV 1580 13 inch Color TV
 

Picked up this obscure vintage JIL (Jutan International Limited) Concerto model JCTV 1580 13 inch Color TV off of KIJIJI today for free. Works and looks like new.
Doesnt seem like it was used much. It is a very clean set.
Made in Taiwan.
I cant find any info on it. Not sure the exact year but probably 1982-1987ish.
Seems to resemble an RCA set of that vintage.

Another fine example of a well kept set.
I don't think you'd be allowed to bring in anything that wasn't perfectly clean, in that home.

The ad said is was from a clean smoke free home.
The set was a bit dusty though, so I cleaned it with a brush.

JIL Logo looks like the Atari Logo. :lol:

Time to get yourself a 2600 and a copy of Asteroids to accompany it...

I wonder if Atari collectors learned of this would those sets start to command $$$ on ebay as THE period companion set to have?

I used to have a 2600 and asteroids + 75 games.. Sold it in 2001.
Id rather buy a Brand new Nintendo NES on ebay.

I dont know how many of these smaller vintage sets are left around but within the past year or so,
Ive collected roughly 14 of them for free or under $10 ! All are working and are in great shape ! :)

Set looks like it was built by AOC ( Admiral Overseas Co. ).
Some of there sets were quite good, others really bad.
When Rockwell shut down Admiral they showed up. Why
Rockwell didnt go factory direct with them with the Admiral
brand is beyond me, there was still a large Admiral following.
They could have saved a ton on the US division & sold a lot
of sets. As it was AOC was one of the first to go under $200
for a 19" set.
The first ones were definately US designed Admiral chassii,
unlike the AOC built 14" & 16" hybrids sold under Admiral.
They looked very different.
An interesting catch & part of the TV industry evolution.

How can you tell ?

I thought that when I saw the antenna connection label. It looked like a Admiral part number. Also the Taiwan word, moulded in the rear corner of the back.

Ive seen 10 +++ sets a day, 6 days a week, 300 days a year
for 30 yrs til things slowed down. You start to dream about them !
Figure I worked on 70,000 + sets at an average of 8 per day.
Not all completed of course, estimates etc.......
Biggest clue is the use of 1/4" holding it together. Asian sets
almost always use phillips especially small sets. Other clues are the
antenna block & general look of it. TV's evolve so you can
usually tell even if you havent seen one. Also the antenna
instruction tag has an Admiral style part number !!

You may be able to look up the CSA number to ID sets also.
You can do it with FCC ID numbers at fcc.gov.

One other thing I am good at is wrapping cords. Almost everything
that came in got wrapped, then again on completion. I can
wrap them like a machine in seconds if the cords in good shape.
Hell of a useless thing to be good at:sigh:

JIL - Low Average

Jutan International Limited uses the names Candle, Citizen, Concerto, and Electrohome. VCRs and DVD players were usually built by Funai, but now by Emerson/Orion. The units branded with the Electrohome name are slightly better than the others. Their TV's are reasonable if you want a low-end set and don't care too much about the long term.

My 1983 RCA portable was one of the filthiest sets I have ever seen locally. Cleaned up easily though, so probably not cigarette smoke residue. The home it came from was nice, but the set was in the garage, was probably there for most of its life to get that dirty.

Anyway, that's a very nice little set. Many moons ago I would see Citizen products regularly bearing that JIL logo, but never knew its significance until I saw this topic.

I remember both the JIl brand and Candle as well. If my memory serves me right, an old store chain by the name of Consumers Disrtributing sold their products in Canada. Had an old record player and 8track all in one from back in the day.
