Heath IO-101

Hey gang
Been working on a Heath IO-101 vectorscope. Interesting critter but the worst IC sockets satan ever develped! I changed all the sockets and the intemittant board problem is cured but still have a black bar down the middle (left-right) of the picture. One of the gates appear shorted at the input (stops the pulse to the inputs when in the board). Also, the CRT has a 1/4 inch trace with no input. Anyone have experience with this thing?
I did order a few of all the IC's but any help is welcome before they arrive.
