Westinghouse Model H-242
 

Just scored a 12" Westinghouse Model H-242 from another member in Phoenix. Went to pick it up yesterday. Has the shutters to switch between porthole and standard double D screen. Needs a good cleaning and re-capping, of course. Picture tube is a little weak, but should make an OK picture. I'll probably put this one at the top of my restoration queue. Pix below.

I wonder if Westinghouse actually built that chassis or licensed it from some other company? My 1949 H-181 is a rebadged Philco 48-1001; you can see the 48-1001 stamp on the rear of the chassis.

The H-242 is from 1949. Multiple sources to the contrary, I'm quite sure the H-181 dates to 1948. It is listed in Rider 1, after all.

According to the tvhistory.tv site, it's from 1948.

Will probably start a re-cap next week as soon as I get a list put together. Already started cleaning up the cabinet. I'm planning on keeping the original finish and just touching up the scratches with some old english and maybe doing a coat of Watco Danish oil. The photofinish trim on the top and bottom edges is nearly flawless, so I don't want to disturb it.

That is one cool TV.
There was one at the ETV last year that I and some others bidded on in the
Silent Auction. Lots of interest.

I saw what I think was this set in Mesa, AZ on e-pay and drooled.

What are those white spots on the front? From the auction listing, I had incorrectly assumed that they were photo-finish-fails, which usually indicates a restoration problem.

The white spots were just small splatters of latex interior paint. I've already removed all of them using some denatured alcohol.
