Too much white.
 

Is there any way to reduce the too bright white on a Panasonic "Quintrix" wide screen CRT TV? Reducing brightness in the user adjustments gives a washed out picture, and the white bits are still too bright. White shirts have no folds or creases, they are just bright white. We've tried

From what I've read, getting into the service settings and increasing the blue and green drive might help but I need advice on this. As always, if I screw anything up it's nobodies fault but mine............. The TV was free from another convert to Plasma.

Does it have "Contrast" and "brightness" controls or in the OSD menu? I don't recall ever seeing a TV that you could not control the peak white and black level with the two controls. I think Brightness should set black level, Contrast white level.

Sounds like it's clipping whites, so you would want to reduce drives, not increase them.

The best way to adjust the picture on a plasma is to throw a sledge hammer directly to the center of the screen and that will darken the picture alright than call the store where you got the set from and tell them that your tv atracts hammers to the screen...Timothy

Have you tried the various color preference menu settings, e.g. "sports," "movies," etc?

There are a couple of trick settings. "oh, look at that...." However. Have you heard of SCART sockets, sometimes called Euroconnectors? Basically a good idea; multiple pins on a single plug carrying audio, video and other things but they have two problems.

1). All pins have to be clean; does them good to be unpluged and put back in occasionally.

2). They don't lock. It would have been easy to do, just a springwire clip that goes over the back.

So she's got a new digibox. Nice clean SCART plug to probably dusty SCART socket. Not a complete cure but pretty good. Maybe a squirt of de-oxit would improve things even more. Does anyone know if there's an equivalent to de-oxit sold in the UK?

Thanks for all your help. I did think of trying to access the service settings but my experiences are not good. Bit like being in a maze; the more you try to find a way out the more damage you can do. :screwy:

I think this should be the equivalent. "DeOxit" was Cramolin in the US, back 20-30 years ago.
