Somebody save this RCA Victor S1000, 1949
 

I had this model set many years ago. I attest to the quality. It's an early 16" combination tv, radio, phonograph. Has 78 rpm changer, and, the new RP 168 45 rpm player. This set uses an oscilator scratch filter to filter out record scratches. It is housed in a mahoganny case with real Butt mahoganny veneer on doors.
This is an excellent set, and, needs to be saved. It's on e bay for only20.00 start, and, is NY city.
Somebody please rescue it!

Wow, what a set! Probably RCA's best black and white chassis (KCS-31) using a 16AP4. And a quality AM/FM/SW radio to boot.

I wish I was nearer. I hope this set get's a good home. There can't be many of these about.

Odd that they used 2 record changers, one for 45's and another for (I'd guess) 78s and LPs). Probably some marketing guy said "I want the consumer to be able to play all records, use 2 changers if you have to>"

Alas, what makes this set interesting is that it was manufactured during the infamous "War of the Speeds" period eg 1949-50. RCA delayed getting the licence for the Columbia LP until 1950, much to their regret: RCA had the finest classical record library which was not suited to the short playback duration of the 78 and 45 RPM disc. They lost much of the market to Columbia in two short years.....

The question is: does the turntable play 33 1/3 RPM discs??? Or is it RCA's last hold out on the 78? Notice that the changer does not appear to have a turnover cartridge!!

The last interesting thing is the knobs on the TV. Note that they are the 1948-49 "cat's eye" design. By mid '49 RCA changed the knobs to the brown round plastic except on the high class projection 9PC41. I suppose the luxury of this set warranted the same?
