1953 Stromberg-Carlson Empire 24" Television Tambour Door 624-CDO
 

I'm new to collecting televisions, guess that I was waiting for the rite one to come along. My grandfather was an RCA repairman though, that may explain a few things.
This awesome 24" Stromberg-Carlson came out of a home last month in Portland, Oregon. It is in wonderful shape but it has not been tested. I've ordered a schematic for it and have tube testers but I do not know how to test the main tube (24 CP4-A). It appears to be in good shape except for a layer of white grime on all of the internals. It's a heavy beast, perhaps 300 lbs.
I love the build quality, style and the curved glass protecting the CRT.

The blue "can" connected to the base of the picture tube is a "booster" or "brightener" transformer, usually installed to coax a few more months of life from an aging tube. The tube may not be all that bright at this point, but might benefit from careful use of a CRT rejuvenator machine. To properly test it, you need a CRT tester/rejuvenator, or a standard tube tester with a CRT test adapter.

Hey I have one of those crts I just junked a stromberg combo the cabinet is out in the yard with the crt it had a good test of about 80 percent on my tester I hated to junk the set but do not have the space for it what a wasteI realize that I commited a sin against the tv but that is what happens when you have to get rid of stuff... did you junk any of the others out tim? if there smaller sets you know me ill take them. also tim i got that 1905 adding machine from dave!

Do any of you know anyone in the Portland area that could rejuvenate this tube for me? After that, do I keep the "can" on it or remove it?
