RCA 14-S-7070U With a crumbling yoke
 

Hi all,

I would like to start on this neat little set after i am done with my Philco 50-T1406. The problem is unlike the Philco the yoke is not on a plug and the yoke has to be removed to remove the chassises form the CRT to replace the caps etc.. Now this yoke is crumbling apart and i am looking for ideas on how to stabilize/fix it.

The set itself is in good shape and does work to a point... I need to test the CRT but the picture has good contrast and brightness, I am also going to repaint the plain great metal cabinet in something a bit more "50's" Im thinking something like a Red/White two-tone with the red being like the one used by Plymouth on the 1958 Furry.

Cant say much about the yoke, i actualy scrounged up a NOS one off ebay, mine was crumbling too.. If you cant find one then try to salvage the one ya have... :)

What's the yoke part #?

no dont turn the tv into evil chirstine tv , it will be turning on in the middle of the night receiving bad show's making a mess of the living room ,oh you get the idea.

Does that have the metal cabinet like my 14-S-7070G?

The factory paint on mine was fire engine red with gold trim -- I called it my '57 Chevy TV.

That was my very first TV restoration. Some times I wish I hadn't sold it, but you can't keep everything.

According to the service lit the RCA Part number is 103114
Sorry thought it was the 7070G but its the 7071 same chassises different color

The red set of Phil's would fetch a pretty penny at the Atomic Warehouse!

For that yoke Matt, it may be worth getting male and female spade connectors, usually found in Auto parts stores. I hate not having a yoke plug. Sometimes, I cut and re-splice wires rather than F' with that fragile yoke.

Funny how none of these have the leather(?) handle intact.

My 14S7074U is white and looks pretty sharp with the gold trim. If Matts is a U, then it has the loop and rabbit ears, a cool feature.

I have a 14S7070 that is probably that same semi-metallic gray. It needs a gold trim for the safety glass.

These are neat sets, they must have been pretty popular.
