They made sure they had every model RCA made that year displayed.
Whirlpool still made wringer washers at that time. |
Get a load of the number of ashtrays in the photo! Photo brings back a lot of memories...

There's one set on the right side that's playing!
What do you suppose this was? Looks like they are looking at a Poster of some sort. Show, Movie, Commercial?? |
One thing about TV/appliance stores then, they packed tons of inventory in a small space. Like most of them, you could have walked in this place and bought a whole house full of stuff, from a dishwasher to an electric griddle, a vacuum cleaner to a color TV. Pity the poor fella that has to dig out that combo in the back corner!

Totally irrelevant, but did I mention that was my 21st birthday? |
my mom has three of those old GE vacuum cleaners in that pic. Can you imagine a store today with a dragon hanging from the ceiling to heat the place.... I think best buy doesn't have that much on display, even with 8 times the floor space... Funny how shopping has changed. So would you call this place a big box store of its day? I'm pretty sure it was just known as what ever its name was, not so much classified into size like today. Also, I bet with only about 10 people in that store it really seemed packed. Nice little marketing gimmick if you think about it. I always laugh when I see people camped out at best buy on Santa's birthday. What do ya think that store owner would say if he could see people camping out overnight to get a tv on sale today? Anyway great pic!

i remember a tv & appliance store like that one in my area named [ buekers appliance ]i think it was spelled that way , that closed in the 80's mainly because the younger family members didnt want the store pass down to them. they where a magnavox dealer, and my dad worked at the olds dealer a block down the street [ mechanic ] on saturdays when most kids where watching cartoons or playing sports he would drop me off there and ken a old school service teck would teach me to work on tv's,i was about 10 or 12 then, and ken then was in his late 50's .when i was done there i walked down and helped my dad work on cars.in those days 6:00 am was go to work time ,i think back now and what a different world we lived in then. that around the early 70's for me
