Fishtank TV's
 

Saw these today on our local auction site I hope this isn't a trend starting here, it really annoys me as vintage TV sets are very thin on the ground in these parts and considering the seller has two of them listed and I can bet these sets were probably working or needing very little work. If I start seeing more listed by the same person I will probably leave a comment on his listings. GRRR!:thumbsdn::no:

what a loss ,and they never keep the part's either and try to sell them . i think they do this because they really want to do something with the tv, but cant or won't learn how to repair them. they could stick a fish tank in one of these entertainment center's that are all over for sale, that cant be used with a flat screan tv now.:puke:

Grrrrrrr....That's why I hate "Civilians" having old TVs & radios...They see junk, or something to be changed, WE know differently...

And whats even more ridiculous is the sellers starting bid on each set of $200! ($250 NZD) :no: So will be interesting to see what the reserve is! No one will buy either of them and the seller trying to cash in on the retro conversion thing because they think it looks 'cool' when it looks tacky and stupid.

Also DANGEROUS..... Every time I see that with the SPINDLY little wood legs, and what looks to be around 40 gallons of water. I wouldn't have that anywhere NEAR my place. That first set looks especially scary, and then all that weight on those little tiny "feet" on your carpet, hardwood floors or whatever. These cabinets are designed for 100-150 pounds at most between the CRT and chassis. 50 gallons of water (JUST the water) is over 400 lbs

I do have fish tanks ....REGULAR fish tanks, so I know what these damn things weigh. I also know that just the big cube of water is the EASY part. This wooden TV cabinet has to endure "messing with"...and CONSTANTLY if you are going to be keeping like 20 fish in it. The thought of a 30-40 gallon tank like eight inches off the ground. I first feel sorry for the TV set that is DEAD and GONE....and THEN, I feel sorry for the FISH when the owner realizes his quirky little yuppy accessory requires minor weekly upkeep, and then monthly REAL work if he is gonna keep it in good shape.

I give the owner of a TV aquarium maybe a YEAR before he gives up on it. No person who DOES take care of fish is gonna want this tank. Alot of work will have to go into KEEPING it nice looking AND the fish happy (ONLY happy fish look nice), and then the "effect" would be lost if you have all the CORRECT filtering taking up space under or right next to this. The "shock value" of seeing this at a party or whatever yuppy thing these are for would be lost if there is a big box or tray underneath or next to it of air pumps, valves and a big tall Fluval 405 sitting there. You don't get away with just water and fish in something this big.

It's gonna be SO SAD in five years when you spot a big 'ol roundie from across a thrift store......and find out it's just a raggedy old tired aquarium someone gave up on. I'd rather it be an old TV set in need of alot of attention.

I totally agree with all the comments above and very true about the those spindly legs holding all that water, I didn't think of that either...dangerous.

It IS kinda neat havin' a Pilot 3", a 7" 19A11 Bakelite Admiral, or a Zenith Porthole & showin' it off to "Civilians"-I.E. "The Great Unwashed", whatever you wanna call non-collectors. If they are young kids it TOTALLY flips 'em out. If they are a little older, you're met w/grins, & "Will you look at THAT ?!?" An older person who maybe halfway remembers 'em just gets a faraway look in their eyes, & a slight grin...To me, those reactions make all the hate & discontent ALL worthwhile.....

Man! What an terrible thing to do in a place where vintage sets are scarce!

....Perhaps we should form an army and wage a war of genocide on all fishtanker kind....and use some kind of morph-ray to turn them into vintage TVs where they will be more useful BUhahaha! :scratch2: .....Please forgive the previous outburst my inner mad scientist got the best of me.

Works for me...An' I gots a pretty big Budding Mad Scientist thing goin' on, too...Remember that Specific Products WWVC receiver thingy I have ?!? If THAT ain't PURE Mad Scientist, I dunno what is..It goes "BEEP...BEEP..BEEP..." Its FULLA Tooobs...It has a built in Sillyscope...Its more or less UTTERLY useless, just Kewl as H3ll...What more could you ask ?!? (grin)

Those are not going to be fun to clean. there is a shop that my mom likes to go in to that has a hallicrafters that they converted to a fish tank and every time m y mom takes me in there she asks me if she can have me find an old TV nut to let her convert a tv into a "functional work of art ..." she also tried to have some fun with white paint ,and sandpaper on a nice zenith console stereo sold that one before it could get chicafied...
