Beauftiful Zenith combo on Detroit area Craigslist

Only $4800 and comes with the first remote control!

truetone36 08-14-2012 05:07 PM

That's from around '67-68, isn't it? I have a console stereo with that same tuner and TT, and it's an X series from '67.

Dreamsbeard 08-14-2012 05:10 PM

That's a steal...not... But seriously, is that kind of console could be worth that much?

Carmine 08-14-2012 05:40 PM

I think the guy's decimal key is broken. $48.00 would be lucky.

mstaton 08-15-2012 12:59 AM

snelson903 08-15-2012 03:53 AM

This is a nice looking TV, but unfortunately the seller is far too optimistic thinking he/she can rake in that kind of money. Its sad that there is little to no demand for these nice combination units, but thats reality. We can't argue with it, and we can't hope it will change. As the saying goes "it is what it is". More times than not, they cannot be given away, regardless of how nice the cabinets are. I'm curious as to why the seller did not mention its working condition considering the asking price:scratch2:

For what its worth, I remember these sets and I can tell you that the remote remote control hand unit is infact incorrect for such model. It may operate the TV, but the designation "SC-600X" was exclusive to 1973 Zenith models only. This set on Craigslist should be equipped with the tan 600 remote as it is a 1968 model. Most likely, at one point in the life of the TV, the original remote was either lost or broken and this was available as a replacement. It works, but is incorrect.

With all due respect to the seller, they really have no idea that the general public or even us collectors for that matter will not buy a TV like this for more than $100.00. Space is a major drawback as well and people really do not have interests in turning the cabinets into something else.

If you confront the seller regarding his/her asking price, they may take great offense because of the huge differential between what its worth and their asking price, but until they are informed of the reality of the matter, they will continue to make these mistakes as they are simply unfamiliar with what they have. A big shiny beautiful wooden box can often be deceiving for having high value. Let's at least commend the seller for taking the time to attempt to sell it where as most everyone else would cut it up and throw it away without even trying to offer it for sale.

You can BUY a house in Detroit for $500 (five hundred dollars)

The only value I can see is in the cabinet itself.
Those cabinets were solid wood and wood veneer.
I was looking through one of the home theater magazines and a nice cabinet like that would sell for $3k and up. The problem would be in converting it to an A/V equipment cabinet.

$4800 must be what good Crack costs these days.
I just gave away the RCA equivalent to this set, I was lucky to find someone to take it.

I wonder if it's heavy.....:scratch2:

The problem is, A) that cabinet style doesn't match any furniture made in the last 30-years. B) nobody watches TV way down there anymore.

Realize that I'm speaking in generalities. I know the above doesn't apply to people on this forum, but for the most part even the cabinet doesn't appeal to 90% of the general public.
