Two more Admirals come my way
 

A couple months ago I got a lead about a free vintage combo set not far from my place. The owner couldn't get me a photo of the actual set but swore this was it.

Well, that's one of Motorola very first sets with an interesting horizontal TV channel tuning scale.

I spent the next few weeks arranging a time when I could get the set. The owner insisted in be a cool day and I had to enlist a couple friends and a pickup truck.

It all finally came together a couple days ago, but the set was not at all what I expected. It's an Admiral 4H15!
Well, free is free so i bright it home anyway. I'm not sure what to do with this beast, but here it is.

The 10BP4 CRT is good and I do have all the knobs. I'd be happy to give it away to a good home :yes:

Now by sheer coincidence, I got a tip on another Admiral the very next day and drove out to find these two beauties.

I left the Emerson behind, but brought the 24A12 back home. No chips or deep scratches and has all the knobs.
Also, the 10BP4 is good and it has the elusive metal mesh chassis cover. No back though.
If anyone is interested in the Emerson, I can put you in touch with the owner.

WOW! very nice. I especially like the one with the legs. I don't think I've ever seen one of those. That combo looks to be a monster. Do you have room for that?

Yeah, there more I look at the more I think I should have picked it up too.

No, not at home anyway. I could put it in storage though. It's not really all that big as it's only a 10" screen, but it is heavy.

Here are a few more pics of the Emerson. The cabinet is kinda cheap. It's plywood with a textured coating.

maybe you will have to go back and haul it home in the v-dub(if it will fit).

Pretty nice scores. :thmbsp: I wouldn't mind finding another 24A12 with a better cabinet than the one I have.

I'd take the 4H15 off your hands in a heartbeat if I had a way to get it down here. I've always liked the combo sets. They do take up quite a bit of room, though.

If you could find a way to deliver them, I'd gladly take the comb. set, and, the bakelite console.

Does the back from the 4H15 fit the 24A12?
I always thought those Emersons were cute... Is that curved safety glass actually *glass* or could it be plastic?

Hmm, I don't think so, but it might fit a wood cabinet model like the 24C16.

The safety glass on the Emerson was tempered glass. IIRC, the chassis is overbuilt with twin 5U4's. A good performer. :thmbsp:

Bob, I would save that Emerson if at all possible, it's unique looking!

Heck. I'm even saving an odd ball RCA from 1952 that has curved doors, and, a curved case.
I'd like to get that bakelite console Admiral off your hands.

The current owner said it will likely be going up on ebay. It's in a small farm house near Rockford, IL. Hopefully, someone will save it.
