I have had cats for years (am on my third one now) and loved them all (including my current furry friend, six-year-old Kiki), which is why I cannot see the sense in what you are suggesting. Why would anyone want to do that, except just for the heck of it or "just to see what happens"? Sounds to me like a trick a child (or someone with no love or respect for animals) would pull. Besides, I think exposing cats to the static charge on a color (or b&w) TV's CRT could be harmful to the animals, to say nothing of frightening them badly or even killing them outright. Had this been the 1970s (there was a color-TV x-ray scare in this country at that time, which eventually led to the current x-radiation laws that have required high-voltage shutdown circuitry in CRT color TVs from the '70s until the end of the CRT era), there would have been concerns over the possibility of exposing the cats to x-rays as well.

You and rcaman are taking this too seriously. We've got 5 cats; one has very long fir and when she walked past the TV, her fir bristled slightly; the same as would happen to you if you brushed your arm (or head if you're daft enough) across the screen. As to X rays, all crt's emit them but unless you're the proud owner of a good old "Radiation King", the levels are very low and do no harm, as many a couch potato will confirm.

Aberdeen (Scotland) is known colloquially as "Granite City". Granite is naturally radioactive, most of the buildings are granite. Latest research shows that most of the inhabitants don't have webbed feet, nor do they glow in the dark (que theme from X-Files)

the black cat is my helper , the other cat is a bum he sleeps all the time ,he wont clean himself.

Just don't let them watch too much. :)
A year later the kitten is fully grown and fairly "normal", I suspect that by limiting his tv viewing, I prevented him from becoming fat and lazy.

I never thought of myself as a cat person but my wife had 2 when we met and I've really grown to like the creatures. The photo here shows 2 of our current 3. The black one is a lot like me: long, clumsy, laid back, doesn't know when to shut up sometimes. The gray one can get mean. The two of them get along great. The third is the oldest (they are all getting up in years) and is very shy. I have to keep all of them out of the TV room. No fun to be working on a live TV chassis on the bench and a cat jumps in your lap and starts nosing around!

your so right about that ,lately my black cat drives me crazzy if im working on something and not paying any attention to him he will jump up on bench's get into things , he look at me and purposely knock off things and stair at me, then its time for him to leave the room.

It's almost an unwritten law. Anyone that collects and restores vintage electronics, has to have one or more cats. I have three black cats. :thmbsp:

I have one brown cat, "Kiki", with black stripes (one very broad one right down her back) and at least two white patches -- very, very beautiful. She's six years old and she loves me to death (on her own terms, of course), and vice versa. To keep her out of my bedroom when I am working on my vintage radios (my apartment is too small for console TVs), I close the bedroom door. When I open it again for any reason, she is very glad to see me again. I just don't want her getting mixed up in things like my soldering iron, the radio chassis itself (which I always keep unplugged while working on it) and other things that might either sicken or kill her or start a fire, the latter if, for example, she knocks my soldering iron off its stand and it falls to the floor, or burns a hole in its own cord. I once read an article in, IIRC, Popular Science magazine years ago from a man whose cat so distracted him while he was working on the kitchen radio that he cut all the underchassis parts out of the set! His wife was very upset when she found out about this, and when she eventually bought another kitchen radio she forbade her husband to touch it, meaning, perhaps, that from then on, even if a tube burned out they took it to a repair shop. No way was she going to let him work on the new kitchen radio after the way he snipped every component out of the chassis of the other one, accidentally or not. I can only guess what her reaction might have been had this happened to their TV.

BTW, Bryan (bgadow), I think that picture of your black cat with a paw on top of the the gray one is just as cute as can be. :yes: Just goes to show how irresistibly cute cats are. I had a bunch of pictures of my Kiki on my computer until about a week ago, when I had to reinstall the operating system and I forgot to back up the pictures on a CD. Fortunately, I still have several pictures of her, taken some time ago, stored away on disk, so I guess all is not lost -- but believe me, that taught me always to back up my files in case the system crashes. You'd think I'd know better after having worked with Windows computers as a hobby since 1997, but....oh well..........
