Mis-aligned color

The color on my TV is not aligned very well. For example, it's not centered ontop of the luma signal good. See the mario bro's coin symbol at the top.

Once again, no POTs to adjust this.

Is this going to be caps again? Ugh, I just fixed the flyback, I don't need to be tinkering with this chassis, I just want to enjoy it.

Red smear = weak crt lots of the time

mrflex65 05-19-2012 12:44 PM

Did it look like this before you replaced the flyback?
Perhaps maybe the yoke assy. is loose? Could also be that the convergence rings may have been disturbed. Usually there sealed with some type of glue/paint.:scratch2:

RobtWB 05-19-2012 12:51 PM

Given the age of the set ... weak crt

lnx64 05-19-2012 12:54 PM

Can't be weak CRT and it did this before flyback. On a greyscale image no problems at all.

mrflex65 05-19-2012 01:02 PM

Is your game console on top of tv? Yeah, i know i'm reaching....:D

RobtWB 05-19-2012 01:46 PM

Always a crap shoot diagnosing from a screen still but sure looks like a weak crt and static converg appears off as well. Of course as others have posted could be other probs.

old_tv_nut 05-19-2012 03:31 PM

I see all color smeared - blue into green as well as red into blue. I don't trust the game console. Does it look this bad on a better source like a DVD or cable? Have you tried to see if it changes with fine tuning?

lnx64 05-19-2012 03:55 PM

Happens on all sources. I tried fine tuning and while it helps a little doesn't fix it all the way. If for example I hook the tv up to the Lima output of my DVD player for a pure monochrome image there is no color bleed. This leads me to believe the CRT is fine. I'll try and get a cross hatch pattern tonight for convergence.

old_tv_nut 05-19-2012 04:27 PM

Hmmm- delay line problem, or misalignment somehow?

mstaton 05-19-2012 04:38 PM

Could be an IF alignment issue. did you try channel 4?

lnx64 05-19-2012 05:19 PM

Yes tried 3 and 4. Happens on all VHF cable channels too

ctc17 05-19-2012 07:47 PM

The smear from a weak crt never shows up on the greyscale only on colors smeared to the right and red is always the worst.

lnx64 05-19-2012 08:19 PM

Really? I thought they did. On my hitachi on a greyscale screen at high contrast it bleeds.

RobtWB 05-19-2012 08:42 PM

if you find it is a weak crt, sometimes but not always, you can set for a b/w pix and adjust the color and tint slowly forward and get a nice picture ... a case in point

in front of me is a '96 production RCA 36" set with a weak crt ... with the remote and the aux controls i adjusted the set slowly advancing the color to ~ 75% and keeping the tint weighted heavily towards green ... now have an excellent picture

how long will it last? a roll of the dice it is ... could be 15 min ... 15 days ... 15 years
mine has lasted several months with no sign of degradation
