Electrolytics, where to buy
 

I used the search feature a number of times... parts, supply, capacitors, etc but couldn't come up with a thread for parts sources. I read a thread by Phil Nelson about radio parts sources and came up with Mouser, Antique Electronic Supply and Allied and this list: http://antiqueradio.org/parts.htm
What's your parts supplier of choice and why? Or, just direct me to the correct thread in this or another forum and you don't have to bother answering. Thanks! Steve

I'm in Orlando FL and I go to Skycraft. It's a surplus type store, so you gotta pick it out in a bin, but it's dirt cheap and you CAN find good brands like Nichicon, but I don't know where you are.

Mouser. good prices, no minimum. Do spend a few extra pennies for the better brands.

I used to go there for parts too a few years ago back when I lived in Lakeland. Shoot we might have bumped in to each other with out knowing.
You ought to go to a FAWG (Florida Antique Wireless Group) swap meet some day...lots of cool stuff shows up there, and it is held at the ESRC tube supply co. Their site is here http://www.clge.com/radiorelics/index.html

Mark is well recommended. I think I will use him next time I order caps.

I've used Mouser, Just Radios, and AES. No real issues with any although shipping from Just Radios takes longer because they are in Canada. Dave has some of the hard to find high voltage caps. Mouser's website takes a little getting used to but once you do, it's fine and they are FAST and CHEAP. AES is my old standby. I ordered caps from them 20 years ago and still do if I need a tube or three at the same time. You can do better on pricing but they are handy and carry a lot of different stuff.

I start with All Electronics in California. Even if they don't have what I want, it's fun going there. They send a catalog and have a web site.

i shop different places for caps. when i see someone run a deal on a number high volt ones i try to buy large amounts its cheaper in long run ,your always going to need them. i hate being one capacitor away from being finished. the only problem i seem to be having is finding a good supplier for schematics the older ones are not to hard to find but anything newer ,i would like get schematics for stuff even up to the 90's,it maybe i just looking right place . i have been out of tv electronics since the early 90's so i am a little behind .

ESRC? I've bought 4 6ak5's from them a few years back, even driving to there warehouse, for my headphone amplifier. They were NOS world war 2 era tubes still in their original box which showed they were for navy use. (Hytron manufactured).. They still work to this day and are even used in my video game music remixes on the pre-amp stage before being recorded. Makes the music sound even better.

i just cheched out just oldradioparts think i will use them next time there pricing isnt bad ,there not those real cheap chinees ones are they . i got a few packs of resisters the price was to good ,i found out why you talk about being off value a 10 ohm resister would be like 23 ohm when checked it . i cant use them they probley couldnt handle there current rating either.

What brands should we be looking for/avoiding?

I've been using mostly Nicolson and Panasonic and have been satisfied.

I use Allied Electronics quite a bit, they also stock those high voltage ASC caps for doing VT-71's.

Mouser for electrolytics. Great selection, good prices, fast delivery.

Use Nichicon and Panasonic 105 degree centigrade rated 'lytics. They come tall and narrow, great for fitting inside metal canned multi-section 'lytics. They come in axial and radial leads. The Mouser search engine takes a while to get used to, but it is the best.

Tubular Caps? Just Radios.:smoke:
