JFK and...RCA Victor?
 

Thought people might get a kick out of this photo of JFK, by the legendary photographer Garry Winogrand, taken at the 1960 Democratic National Convention.

My questions are:

1) The set? Somehow I think RCA Victor, but what do I know?
2) What's that round plastic thing on top of the set?
3) What's that thing to the left of the set that looks like a giant economy-size bottle of Jaegermeister?

I think I see a "GE" logo at the bottom left. :scratch2:

I'm guessing that is a shock mounted microphone with a long "snout" to his left. Perhaps Electro Voice model 644 or similar design.

The set is a 17" General Electric from around 1960-61. One of their Slimline Designer series.
The round thing seems to be behind the TV, possibly part of the Podium?

I'm not a fan of the early circuit boards (and GE embraced them very early) but I know from experience that those are really nice sets--great picture and dependable. Among other things it tucks a power transformer and 5U4 into that slim profile.

The round "glass" thing on top of the TV set is an ashtray, with one butt in it.

The round thing under JFK's right elbow is the speaker's gavel.

Yeah...I'm old enuff to remember when ass-trays were a necessary part of every place, & were perched EVERYWHERE... Every place stunk, my mom "Lit one offa one", & a lot of her blouses had little burn-holes in 'em...Ugh ! I guess the reason I don't smoke is I remember her dressing me, w/a cig hangin' outta her mouth, & a cuppa coffee...Nothin' much worse than coffee/cigarette breath...I NEVER liked "Smoky Rooms", but ever since I had my stroke several years ago, now, if I'm around someone who smokes, its virtually INTOLERABLE to me...

I had teachers in my face once'n a while because I was drawing 'lectric stuff on my tablet instead of paying attention in class. The coffee-cig breath was horrible...

BTW - Those GE sets were a good cheap alternative to a Zenith. The few I did see I loved working on.

You mean someone else did that beside me? A few of my HS teachers, were always chewing gum, to mask the breath. A few of them also went out for lunch.
GE called those sets the designer series. The first models were 1959 models.
