Is This A Predicta?
 

I came across this picture of what looks somewhat like a predicta but I have never seen a one that looks like this. It's a really cool looking tv. Any ideas?

Yes, definitely an artist's creation, not an actual picture. The most obvious clue is no POWER CORD! :)

Agreed with all above. Artistry or maybe a foreign set, but I will go with total artistry. There were only two "Predicta-style" TVs that existed in the USA; the Cleervue Hollywood (late 1940s), and the five specific models of Philco Predicta. There were also some Philco TVs with the "Predicta" badge, which were standard box-type TVs; not with the separate tube housing. Little-known fact ;-). There are photos circulating of some European TVs with "Predicta-style" design, which may or may not be of real sets produced, and there are is the "Telstar Predicta", which was made in the mid-1990s as a reproduction.

I think it looks cool.....If one popped up near me for cheap I wouldn't hesitate to save it.

There was the Ling DeLuxe Television that the Richardson Independent School District had in the '60s... I remember those well, but haven't seen one since about 1968.

One shown an old class picture from 6th grade, 1962-63. (Wallace Elementary School, Mr. Duncan my 6th grade teacher standing next to it.)

Cool set! Never seen one of those, but the name rings a bell.

I also forgot about the Mitsubishi "Predicta". It was a 12" black & white set from the mid-70s, with an umbilical cord from the base unit to the CRT cabinet. But it's a plain, square fake woodgrain box, and the high voltage supply is in the tube cabinet and not the base. The base has the tuner, IF & video, plus AM-FM radio and mechanical flip clock. But it's "sort of" the same idea, I guess.

Would like to find one but unless someone bought one at a RISD auction they all probably got scrapped to the land fill.
