Came across a gutted console today.
 

Anyone recognize the make?
There were no tube charts or tags left on it but it was a Combo unit.
The center strip is part of the left door and folds back with it to uncover the (Missing) TV.

I'm kind of glad it was empty, that way I didn't feel obligated to save it!

Its hard to tell with the cabinet closed.

It wasn't much different open, nothing inside, not even the mask.
I took a picture of it open but forgot to save it apparently.

TV was on the left, Phono top right I think, radio under that.

I think I found it, it's an Admiral from 52-53.

Here's an ad I found on eBay.

$529 was a lot of money in 1952 or 1953.
Can't think of any of today's high tech objects relatively as pricey.

Not when you consider many of the people making today's "high tech" devices work around 14 hours a day and are paid less than 400 dollars a month...

If you hadn't found that ad, I'd have put all my bets on Magnavox...

Look at today's large-screen HDTVs. Many very large name-brand flat screens are selling for well over $500, and if you buy a complete home theater with, for example, a 50" TV, 5.1-channel surround sound system, and an entertainment-center cabinet to house it all, you can expect to spend close to twice that much if not more.

I think the the brand name and size of the screen, in that order, are two major factors (there may be others) that set the selling price for today's FP TVs; the lesser-known the name and the smaller the screen, the cheaper the set will be, and vice-versa. The brand name is what you are paying for, even though none of the major television manufacturers exist any longer. The excellent reputations for quality these now-defunct companies once had has been shot to H--- as well. :no:

I saw a FP set advertised with and RCA label on it - very sad, next to it was one with a Westinghouse label:sigh: I have one of the last real Westinghouse TV's made in Metuchen NJ

The history of these names must not be forgotten and this forum is key to preserving them.

Can't wait to see a FP set with "DuMont", "Hoffman", or even "Farnsworth" on it!
