Well, I couldn't pass up this cache of sets :banana:

A buddy of mine found the CL ad and with the seller located in-state, I couldn't say no! This will be my first Predicta and I've heard horror stories on getting them in working order, but the overall condition is as nice as you could ask for. Just a little crazing to the CRT cover in the corners. He also threw in an extra CRT (looks used, but why not).

The Delco is very interesting..looks like a Hallicrafters with channel 1. I'm assuming a rubber gasket would have gone around the CRT. Anyone ever seen one branded this way?

The bakelite sets are in good cosmetic shape but no idea on the hardware. There's also a rather plain-jane 17" steel cabinet RCA set with factory wood stand (that needs some work). And a 17" Zenith steel set covered with some sort of manmade "fabric". Both appear to use the cylindrical faced CRTs. :thmbsp:

What's the deal with the little Emerson 639 and the Admiral? You have those photos attached but you did not mention them.

Hallicrafters made all the Delco badged TV sets. The 7 & 10 inch model. That was a great buy you made there. That Predicta is one of the last models and pretty good performers, when restored. :thmbsp:

I have the same Delco set. You're right in that there should be a rubber hood that also helps support the crt. Make sure the crt is secured well, as that hood is supposed to help prevent it from flopping around. Those hoods are usually in good shape-unlike the Motorola hoods that melt down catastrophically.

Predictas are not as bad as they sound IF they have not been too badly hacked before you get it. Spray some loosen juice around the sockets before trying to pull the tubes. The sockets are VERY fragile and if you break one you will HAVE to pull the PCB. If the sockets are not too bad you can recap it with out pulling the board. I actually like working on that model predicta as its very modular and easy to fit the chassis on the bench. The PCB's are very fragile and not thru plated so you have to be careful about getting parts off the board.

I have one of those little Emersons...been in the family since '48. Worked well until it was put into storage about 20 years ago...then meeces decided that RF chokes & paper caps were tasty munchies:( Some day.....

That Emerson looks great Carl! In my pic, I had cleaned off the dirt and polished the top of the cab with some red oil and it really looks respectable. I also find it interesting that the "faceplate" if you will on this set looks like it's solid from the CRT to the face of the cabinet- something like 1/2 to 3/4" thick.

I haven't checked the Predicta crt for emission yet, but I made the same comment that Greg did when I saw the posting..."it even has the antenna!?"

CW, that Admiral also was part of the package. I have a few other Admiral bakelites but this one looks a little different to me. The horizontal detailing in the bakelite continues along the sides of the cabinet breaking up what would be a big flat expanse. Also looks like it was a smoker's set based on the faceplate.

I see there's going to be a Predicta workshop at this year's ETF convention. Sounds interesting! -Cory

Did not know that. I bet a Predicta workshop will be well attended. I think someday I will land a Predicta and it would be nice to already know something about them.

What an amazing haul! It took me a few years to track down those sets for my collection. A couple years just to find a Predicta antenna.
