Zenith SL2541X - Color balance problem
 

Hey everyone, I haven't posted on here in a few years...and I am not a seasoned tech by any means. However, I picked up a really cool Zenith set with a concave cabinet from 1979. Set works very well, I even got the original space command remote with it (bonus). The one problem I am having that I can't seem to get around, even with the sams on this set, is that the picture has a pink hue to all the whites. All the reds are pretty hot on this set. The only adjustments I can find for balancing the color are the "background" adjustments on the video driver board on the back of the crt. I can't seem to find anyway to adjust the "drive" colors on this one. If anyone has any information on how or even if this can be adjusted I would greatly appreciate it. The pic attached is not my set but has the same chassis as mine.

Look for a trio of controls labeled screen or G2 (I believe) and turn the red one down until the whites look white and the blacks look black.

Isn't that set the first generation of the system 3 line. The CRT is probably on the way out. Those tubes were longer lasting than the later ones but, the set had many birthdays since 1979, so it's not unusual that gray scale is a problem.

Those sets didn't have drive controls. I always adjusted them by turning the color and picture controls down. Then, adjust the G2 controls for the best black and white picture. If the CRT has a weak gun, this will be hard to do. And, those early inline CRT's didn't hold up the best. They were not nearly as bad as '90's Zenith CRT's; but, they were not as good as the old delta gun tubes.

I only have one G2 control. I've adjusted that and the screen controls...but still same result. Might have to replace the crt if it gets much worse. The TV is like new otherwise. Anyone have any idea where to get my hands on a crt?

I'd test the CRT before condemning it (and if it tests bad and is unwatchably bad maybe a rejvination if you have a good tester for that). If all available controls don't have enough effect, and all guns are good enough to yield a good picture then I'd check the circuitry feeding the guns.
