First Football Game on TV?
 

Does anyone know? Post here if you do but don't watch the video first. Its a little cheesy and you have to wade through the Pittsburgh pride but its informative and interesting.

Depends on which "first" is considered. The first televised game to the public was the college game of Waynesburg vs Fordham in September 30 1939. The first pro game televised was the Brooklyn Dodgers vs Philadelphia Eagles in October 22 1939. The very first known documented game is an unidentified game in 1933 on RCA experimental TV.

Were these games televised live direct from TV camera or were they filmed, developed and converted live to video and broadcast from within a TV broadcast truck? This film convertion to live video for outdoor events process was described at an early ETF convention. This process may have been used in the mechaical TV era?

Pretty sure that Fordham game was telecast live. I have a "Pictorial History Of Television" book that was my Grandpa's (covers up to 1959) and there's a picture of the cameraman at the game with what looks like an early Iconoscope camera.

I think it was Fordham vs. Waynesburg, which is what Electronjohn found also.

All of the games were done live, as far as I know. It is possible that the Germans televised a soccer game using intermediate film, but I've never seen a mention of it.

Agreed. All the US ones mentioned were live including the one from 1933.
