seeing this site and how neat old tvs are, i posted an ad on my local craigs for old tvs. -yes its you guys fault. this should be intresting to see what pops up! as soon as i get a few hits ill scoop up whatevers offered to me, post some pics of it here, and try to restore it. -i love my vintage audio stuff and this is a first for the infamous stereorob. wish me luck!!:thmbsp:

I've started posting about my sets on facebook and have gotten a few snide comments about me being a hoarder... I think I'm just going to keep them to myself from now on

Seriously, $500 for a common Philco Combo? I don't care how nice it is Philco's are one of the most common sets out there.
BTW it's a 12" set not a 10" like the one he posted, I busted one up for parts a couple weeks ago, too far gone to fix.

You should be able to get most any set from free to $150 for a nice one. maybe start with a simple B&W set. RCA or zenith or philco(not a pridicta). Probably need to start collecting test equipment.LOL A CRT tester is a must!. They are cheap on eBay. Sencore or B&K are among the best. You will need tube tester if you don't already have one and of course a VOM and lots of patience.

Yeah, an early '50s or so would be a good one to start on...And if you mess it up, its not like you woofed a CT-100 or something. By the Fifties, TVs were pretty well understood, & the mfgers had a reasonably reliabe product.

That Maggie on CL was not from the '40's (but we knew that). Find a mid-50's set and read up on CRT and HV safety before you open it up... We'd like to hear from you again!
