Early 70's Hitachi 13" Color
 

Here's an "odd" one.
I have a Hitachi CFA-440 13" Color set.
It's solid state, uses a DOT MATRIX tube, and weighs a TON.
I think it's from 1971-1972
Picture is pretty good. I don't leave it plugged in tho.. it has instant on with NO "vacation switch"
Also odd for a 13"... it has a press board wodden cabinet.
Anyone else have any Hitachi color sets of this vintage?

Nice set!! A friend of mine have a 19'' model with two switch, one for vacation/normal and the other for stand-by. On the stand-by the set will mantain the filaments turned on, for this reason many of these sets have a weak CRT :(

I have one which is about the same size but a little older and I think somewhere I have a 19" around this age. It has been a while since I have had them in operation but I remember they would degauss when the power was shut off.

I have a matsushita made packard bell that looks almost exactly like that. I think it has 8 tubes in it. They are heavy and do work good.

I'll have to take the back off sometime, and see the picture tube number.
Just curious to what type they used.

You're welcome! Well, I would because I like the consoles you're letting go. But...since I don't have one 'o dem tings....uh whaddaya call it..... oh yeah, a HOME to put it in:) but I would be more than willing to try and ship it if you are. I do however, have a storage locker:scratch2:

That little set sure is KAWAII!

I don't know exactly why, but I can hear a high-voltage rectifier tube screaming at me from within that set. :B

It certainly might have a tube rectifier in the high tension ckt.

Regretably, I passed on this exact model Hitachi a few yrs. back. It was over an hour drive upstate NY and cost 50 usd.

The set of my friend is all solid state, no HV rectifier.

This thread caused me to dream of finding a Japanese tube color set in an auto repair shop last night. Though one of my professors offering me a 23" monochrome set yesterday may have contributed to it. :)

Still something I lust after, been looking for one for years and still, no luck. An all-tube color television set. Any brand, size, or age, really, as long as it works! :D

It is a tall order finding a working all tube color set especially in florida. My all tube 1964 Silvertone roundy needed a lot of work to revive, and still could benifit from some stuff that is too advanced for my current skill level. I also have a 1965 Philco roundy that don't use a single transistor (as long as you don't tune UHF), and a 1967 airline 1 transistor hybrid (2 transistors if tuneing UHF) that both worked good on original components after some adjustments.

I was going crazy too trying to get a vintage color set until I moved to Wi and started finding them.
