Nice little CL score
 

I found an ad for two Motorolas and some tubes last night on Craigslist, $125 and they were only a couple miles from me!

He called me early this morning and I ignored it thinking it was a call about a truck I have for sale, I didn't call him back until I had gone to work so I had to wait until this evening to go get them, then I had to run back across town to take my ASE renewal test so I couldn't play with them for another three hours!:no:

Anyway, here they are, two Motorola Suitcases, one a 7" 7VT5 and one an 8" 9L1.

The covering is a little dry on both sets but overall they are pretty solid, and complete with backs.

I plugged the CRT's into my VT-71 chassis and both are very good, good brightness and focus.
The 8" seems particularly good, it's a National Union replacement tube so it may have low hours.

The 9L1 has a very clean Steel chassis, a rust free California set.
The date on it is Jan 10 1950, I don't think I've come across another of these little Motos dated that late, didn't notice what it was, probably a TS-18.



The Three tube caddies were a bit of a disappointment, almost nothing but Compactrons, a few small tubes mostly for 60's era sets, one of them is nearly empty except for some boxes of fuses and misc goodies.
I'm not complaining at all though, the good 8" tube is worth what I paid for the whole shebang.

ASE test? I take it you are an auto tech? I used to be a GM dealer tech for close to 25 years, got out in 2007 and now work for a major supplier. I hate these questions: technician A says this, tech B says that, etc. Most of my ASE's have expired.

A little late but I certainly have to agree. You have a raster so you know that all of the major components are good. I would start with the power supply, replacing the seleniums with silicon, replacing the electrolytics and then slowly replace the paper capacitors. Check that it is still working after a few "improvements" so that if not, you know how to backtrack.

What you are seeing is the CRT hooked up to my restored VT-71 to test the tubes.
