Admiral Cascode Television?
 

I was at a local thrift store, and this television caught my eye. I managed to get a picture of it, though I was tempted to buy it I managed to keep my wallet inside my pocket, for now. Does anyone have any idea what model this might be? Sorry I don't have much for pictures.

If that is a bakelite cabinet Admiral, and they don't want an arm and leg for it, then it is worth it all day long.

What would be considered an arm and a leg for it?

Not it exactly, but in the ballpark.

That name, Advance Cascode, seems familiar. It must have been on my grandmother's 23" console Admiral TV that she had until the mid 1970s when the CRT was so weak the picture was only visible at night with the lights dim. I remember it had huge volume and "chunk-chunk-chunk" channel knobs (and VHF only).

I think the 21A3Z was a super cascode. I have a chassis setting here that I saved for the 21AMP4 CRT.

That chassis was the TOTL that year. First 21" Admiral to use 90 degree sweep. That model was all cascode tuner equipped.

I always thought cascode was a generic term for mechanical tuners with channel detents....Was I mistaken?

It was particular type of RF amp stage using two triodes in cascade (hence the "cascode" moniker), providing high gain at low noise. Twin-triode tubes like the 6BQ7 were used, IIRC.

Heh, why dont cuteys like that show up at my thrift stores?
