32" Sanyo... No controls inside.
 

I was given a 32" Sanyo set to use instead of my 27" Sony that is 20 years old this year. The Sanyo is about 6 years old. Has a nice picture, once I got it working on the satellite box. I'm running it with S-Video and external audio from the sat box. It's programmed with the satellite remote control.

The only problem is: The guys that lifted it up and into the cubbyhole on the wall forgot to get the model and serial number off of it. I'm too old to get it out without help.

It needs a bit of tweeking on the vertical centering, and width. As with my Sony, I had to use the remote to get into the service menus. I repaired this Sanyo about 6 months ago for the guy that gave it to me. Bad soldering is all it was. I noticed then that there were no adjustment pots on the chassis.

So, without the model number, am I able to access the service mode on this set? Is there a standard Sanyo service mode entryway? If I have to get these guys back to pull it out enough to get a look at the back, I can, but it will be several weeks before it can happen.

Also, I dont have the factory remote. I heard a dog ate it.

If and when you do get into the service menu, be sure to write down the numerical values before you change anything. It saves a lot of headaches later.

Correct, a universal remote wont work.

I believe there is a Sanyo-Fisher software package for PC that lets you do everything from a laptop through the IR remote receiver (assuming your laptop has an IR transponder, as most do for printers, etc)... But I have the feeling it's a little more $$$ than a Sams folder. Some of that software isn't too copy-secure, so if you know someone who has it, you could try getting a copy and see if you can make it run.

Working on my Sony's, I learned long ago to write down all the original values before making changes. I did alot of Sony service 15-25 years ago, but, incredibly, have never layed a hand on a Sanyo, other than a DVD/VHS machine or two that needed a certain Sanyo-specific remote (that was NLA.)

When I can get these guys back, I'll get the model, and IF I can get the codes, I'll adjust this thing out. It's better than some TV's that I've seen, but its menu functions leave alot to be desired.

i believe while the set is unplugged from the outlet press and hold the menu button on the set while plugging back in the tv. i am thinking this is the correct for sanyo tv,s. great sets for the money. steve

Thats good to know. When I repaired it, all I did was resolder the vertical output IC, and flyback pins.
