ANTIQUE PICTURE TUBE RECEIVER SCOTT PROJECTION TV

OVERVIEW:

The Scott TV appears to be the model 6T11(there is no model number on it at all), in this case is a television from the late 1940's built by Scott Radio Laboratories from Chicago Illinois.
This table top television functions by using a vertical tube to project the received image to a mirror which then reflects the image onto a ground glass screen for viewing.

SPECIFICATIONS:

* Controls: focus, brightness, contrast, volume
* Ground glass screen size: 19" wide x 13" high, 23" diagonal size
* Wooden chassis

* Input power: 105 - 125 volts AC 60 Hz, 1.9 amps rating

Unit appears to be complete, still might have some parts missing, tubes are untested, comes with everything as pictured.

Also comes with photofact folders with a large folded schematics for the TV, adjustment of optical system, dissassembly instructions, removal of projection tube, parts list and description.

GOOD CONDITION! vintage condition, has some scratches, overall pretty clean and good cosmetics for it's age. Viewing screen(frosted glass) has some damage with faded painting on.

Odd that it's in Milwaukee, but he's posting on the LA craigslist. Maybe he figures there are wealthier collectors on the coast ?

Then again it could be a scam, there's lots of that going around on craigslist.

The owner contacted me months ago wanting to sell the set. We exchanged a few emails. He never did state a price, and got huffy when I mentioned that this heavy, fragile item would need to be shipped in more than one container, since I'm located halfway across the USA.

His parting shot was a crack about not being interested in any "lowball offers." I got the impression that his business is a mixture of audiophool junk and glorified pawnshop.

I have actually seen this Scott set and met the jerk that is selling this. He is an old school electronic tech. In recent years he has been selling ULTRA HIGH end audio stuff to the tube audio fanatics. You know the kind of stuff, esoteric bizzare turntables that sell for $12K and tube amps that sell for $25K. I guess the bottom has fallen out of the market with the poor ecconoimy and the jerk is selling stuff off that he has acquired over the years. Mostly tube audio stuff and over priced high end speakers. Here is a link to the kind of BS he perveys...a bunch of BS smoke and mirrors. A lot of psuedo-scientific flim flam.

And here is an honest review of the BS Triphazers performance. On a scale of 1 to 10 they rate a big fat ZERO, oh yes and they sell for $800/pair. It just goes to prove a sucker is born every day, and this guy is the PT Barnum of electronics.

I have been to his place (bought some carbon comp resistors on ebay and picked them up at his shop) It's called Tritium Electronics and is on the south west side of Milwaukee just south of 84th and National by a couple of blocks.

The story is that he got the Scott set from a fellow that worked for years at Allen Bradley. The fellow got the set from AB when they had no use for it any more. The interesting thing is that the engineers at AB made a custom color wheel conversion adapter for the Scott set using a ColorTel converter adapter box. (but it seems he is not selling the color wheel with the Scott) I saw the custom made color wheel and somehow it evidently mounts inside the Scott and spins in front of the Protelgram projector window.

All this is very interesting, however the old fellow who has the set and runs Tritium Electronics is so full of himself it isn't funny. A real BS artist who thinks the world revolves around him and thinks everything he has is worth a fortune. I made him a fair offer, and he basically laughed at me in a most disrespectfull way. I told him to sell it to some other idiot who wants to overpay for the thing. The reason for my post is to warn all collectors to stay away from this con artist. He is an obstinate and arrogant jerk, and you best have no dealings with this guy.

And BTW, Last month I purchased one of these sets in the blonde finish, already restored electronically for about 1/5 the price this guy is asking.

I think it will be a cold day in hell before anybody pays $2500 this guy's set.

Those Trip Hazer folks (the way I like to spell it!! :D ) are just suede-shoe tricksters. Never trust anybody who wants lots of money from you and can't spell (they keep using it's as a possessive instead of the proper its in their ads.) My head was spinning after reading their stuff. I wish the reviewer had axed open a unit to see what was in there.

I'm going to show this dude's audio doo-dad to a couple of HW engineers I work with today, hoping to give them a :lmao: You'd think for 799 clams the connectors would be gold plated hahaha.

I'm not sure if this is the guy, but a couple of years ago I wrote an email to someone similar, calling his stuff fraudulent and asking him how he could sleep at night. I got into a long email exchange, and offered him this deal:

We jointly pick an independent, credible research facility, such as a university, to test his gadget. I would pay for the test. If they determined that the device made a measurable difference, I would donate $10,000 to his favorite charity. If they determined that the gadget didn't work, he would reimburse me the cost of the test and put a summary of the test results prominently on his website.

At first he accepted, then sent me an email saying that no test was necessary, since he had all the evidence he needed because so many people had bought his gadget.

It's the Emperor's New Clothes again. All those people who bought his stuff fooled themselves into believing BECAUSE they had spent the money and subconsciously (or maybe not so subconsciously) didn't want to appear to be fools. Same people spend hundreds on wooden control knobs, AC receptacles, and thingies to elevate their speaker cables off the floor.

It's faith based Audio, you believe it works so it does.
What's to keep someone from hacking open one of those little boxes and duplicating it anyhow, not that there would be much point in it.

What really bugs me is the price of certain tubes being driven up astronomically because someone said that Black plates, or Square Getters, or Brown bases etc... sound so much better.

Funny thing is there are claims like that for almost any configuration of tube you can imagine. The ones that sound best are always the ones they are selling. :yes:
