Admiral is finally alive
4 Attachment(s)
Just some pics of what I have been working on. Did nothing when I brought it home. The lines and swirls in the pics are not on the screen. All lytics were replaced, hot, damper,hv rectifier, some caps, and low voltage rect diodes. The tube has a bad catarac. Right top and bottom convergence stink but this is my first color set. Just tube radios and power amps before so its a good start.

Good job so far!

Thanks :)

Glorious Lollipop Color ! You're 90% of the way there-Don't quit now !

I was checking high voltage again and it is 20-21 KV with the pot all the way up.
I am thinking this is kinda low ? Focus voltage is 4 KV |
yea thats kinda low. If not done already I would get a NOS HOT/Damper/HV rec/HV reg tube and sub them all, if improvement then replace one old tube at a time.
|
oh and read up on what the SAMs says about HV and horz setup. You dont want to cook the flyback. does it use a shunt tube or a pulse type (6bk4 or
6HS5 tube) for HV regulation? Or perhaps no tube at all for HV (feed back type regulation). Does the HV go up if you turn the brightness all the way down? |
Brightness down. Regulator is silicon diode
Sams is a 1054 The original HOT was a gassey 6LB6 Sams and tube chart in cabinet call out a 6KD6 so thats what I put back in. HV rectifier swap gave me 1 KV increase. Will check more voltages first C101 .004 3KV disc cap with a spark gap on top ?? I will check more things out I am new here and with color sets so I dont want to ask to many questions without looking into things myself. I dont want to be a PITA LOL Getting a few tube type color sets going has been a goal for some time just finding them is hard Thank you for your help Rob |
Hope to heck it's not the feedback type. If it is, the 6KD6 cathode current can soar to over 400ma at high brightness. It can be a hellava job getting the current under control while maintaining width and regulation. HV problems in these are some of the worst and most aggravating I've ever encountered. oc

An attractive set! And the picture is looking good, too. I know some folks who ran 60s Admiral color sets into the 80s. I also know that my Admiral roundie is being a real pain, trying to get its HV to act right.
|
I was friends with the owner of an Admiral dealership in the late 1960's. I remember these sets, and watching my friends dad working on them.

Taking a break for a few days
