GE 10T1 The start of my round screen fascination
 

A long time ago on friday evenings i would visit my favorite tv shop "District Radio And Tv". The owner Carl Strom had old GE bakalite tv sitting on a high counter. Carl told me that this set was abandoned with a $16.00 repair bill. the tv was turned on every friday from 6pm till closing 9pm Needless to say i got attached to this set and hooked on the tv series All In The Family. Time goes on things change, Carl retired and sold off the shop assets. I was offered the set for $500.00 which was way beyond what i could afford so the tv ended up in the basement of our local museum. Pictured below is a GE 10T1 waiting
to be my next project, My GE will need around three dozen caps and All In The Family seasons 1-9. :yes:

Indeed a wonderful picture and story. I've heard these sets are a bit cramped and difficult to work on. I wish you the best of luck.

I recently pulled a 10T1 out of storage and am in the process of getting an appraisal. Looks to be in pretty good shape, except I will not be turning it on to see if it works. If interested reply with an offer and we'll see.

Hi, post pictures show us what you have and if possible take pictures of the chasis.

Just curious - is there any significant difference between a 10T1 and the earlier 800 ?

I have a picture, but not sure how to post it. AS far as taking a picture of the chasis, sounds like I better not risk taking anything apart...lol. Not so good at putting things back together...

How can I get an appraisal for this set? Unknown if it works.

These sets can sell for $50 - $200 depending on condition and location.

Location is very important because they are difficult and expensive to ship without getting destroyed.

Condition, the higher end should have all parts, no cracks, good CRT and clean chassis.

Probably the majority have at least one crack on top near the vents, many are cracked on the bottom.

In unknown working condition but decent cosmetics I would say the average is $100.

I believe the difference between the 800 and the 10T1 is the 800 has a rectangular mask, the 10T1 has a Double D, that's been the case on most of them I've seen, some aren't that way but they may have had the case, or at least the front, swapped out sometime in the last 60 years.

The double-D versions seem to be more desirable even though the rectangular ones are earlier. Some mistakenly believe the rounded-off masks came first. I was actually given my 805 by somebody who believed this until I explained the evolution of the mask types in order to expose a greater surface area of the tube. He still preferred the double-D...and he isn't even a Rush fan....

Other than the crt masking the big differences i spotted are, V7 A,B (6AL5) has been replaced with 1N64 and 1N65 diodes used in the detector and DC restorer circuits. if you have have a early 800A,B a twin diode (25Z6) is used in the damper circuit, changed to 25W4 single doide and a fly back with more taps in 800C,D. just like the 10T1.

I am in the process of recapping this set and yes Bob you heard right this chasis has tight and cramped spaces to work around like the .002/1000v cap on the flyback.

Effort rewarded on first trial. Note! of all the capacitors in the pile only one check ok. Including the eletrolytics with the pile of caps, Here are 30 plus reasons why not to turn on a unrestored set!.

Great results. That set looks tedious to work on. Servicemen must have hated them!

What type of capacitor did you use for restuffing the 150uF @ 150 volts caps and how did you managed it so cleanly ?
