US Television T508 projection set on ebay
Kinda fugly, but interesting. A projection CRT produces a 25" X 19" picture.
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqEOKjM...vul6IQ~~_3.JPG I didn't realize just how big this thing was until I saw the picture at the Early TV Foundation  No way I have the room for this beast  http://www.earlytelevision.org/images/ustv-1.jpg http://cgi.ebay.com/SUPER-RARE-1947-...-/270759024693 (no affiliation) |
This set is obviously seeking the following owner:
1. talented early TV restoration technician and enthusiast 2. owner of retro 1940's bar, the only decor in which this set would not be outrageously ugly #1 and #2 need to be the same person. Ought to be plenty of people like that around, no? |
What part number does a 10" projection tube have? Must be enough light output to signal aliens from outer space!
|
The original "Bat Signal" a 10" projection CRT!
|
Is that really a studded-Naugahyde padded "finish" cabinet? That is just bizarre. I would love to own it, if I had a barn-sized space to fill with old TVs.
|
Ah, I misread the ETF page on the T508. The 10" CRT she's holding is just for a scale comparison. The set uses a 5" 5TP4 projection CRT.

Oh my, I hate to say it..but I think im in love with it. Its like one of those pug dogs, so ugly that its actually cute.
Too bad im no where even close to it, or id be putting in a big on her. Would look great sitting in my garage gathering dust. |
Like to see the club that was it's original home.

I turned down one of those for $100 about a dozen years ago. HIDEOUS! :D
|
It could be updated.
I'm picturing Red Velvet covering with Wrought Iron accents and speaker grilles. :D Or you could do it up in black Leather and slap a Harley Davidson emblem on it ans sell it for big bucks. Or Coca Cola Red with some Coke stickers, the possibilities are endless. I must say the covering is remarkably intact considering what it is and where it was located, in a seedy Bar today it'd be shredded in a week or two. It'll be a huge job to restore all those chassis, assuming nothing is missing besides knobs. I'd just stick a Plasma behind the screen and call it done. |

Someone went for it. I hope we get to see this set come to life.

An unusual set, and I would be very interested in reading about its restoration.
