This is kinda neat looking, what is it? Here's a pic just in case the CL ad goes away... |
Ge #802, 1947
from back in the day when the radio dial was as big as the screen......
They are neat sets. AM/FM/phono and the TV has channel #1. Also, almost all the tubes are octals.

That would be a VERY good one for somebody to grab...
I knew you guys would know what it was :)
Is it worth the $200 they are asking? Not that I am going to go get it, if anybody wants it, go ahead. I just wondered what it was. I am about at capacity with my old TVs, heh. About the only thing I would make room for at this point would be a porthole/turntable combo, heh :) |
There have been about 4 of these; GE 801 without the phonograph and 802 with the phonograph sell for around $50 in the past 4 years at the ETF auctions but all had rough cabinets needing a lot of attention. If the cabinet is in great condition then its worth $200 otherwise depends on your woodworking skills.
I paid $100 for mine. The cabinet is a little rough in spots, but otherwise it's in pretty good condition.
Without all the knobs , I would not pay asking price. Those wooden knobs
are tough to replace. Otherwise, it is a fairly easy TV to restore. The #801 is my better choice as it does not have the turntable. |
I have spare wooden knobs if someone needs any.
I saw one on ebay (less the turntable) sell for less than $5. The one I worked on was given to the owner for free. There is a fellow in New Jersey who has been trying to sell his on Craigslist for years with an asking price in the $200 range. I would really try to talk the price down on this one, as any late 40s combos really aren't worth all that much. Also, make sure the turntable is there, as a lot of these turn up with that missing.
I put a nice clean one on craigs list that works for 50.00 no bites.
I have yet to see on in California...I'd go 150 for sure on it.
(801 would be better but I haven't seen one of those either.) |
