Is anyone here into Anime?
 

I recently got into Anime, I used to think it was stupid until I gave it a chance.:rolleyes: A few of the ones I'm watching and reading the Mangas are: Sekirei, Girls Bravo!, Rin-Daughters of Mnemosyne, Desert Punk and a few others. My absolute favorite so far is Sekirei:banana:. Anyone else out there watching this stuff on their vintage tv sets??

Yeah, I've been pretty heavily into it for over 10 years now :D I've heard of Sekrei and Girls Bravo but haven't read/watched them yet.

I don't generally watch anime on my late 40s sets small 7, 10 and 10 inch B&W screens, but I did record this test of an Admiral 24A12 playing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig.

On rare occasion ill watch an anime, mainly dominion tank police, akira, 8 man, yeah theyre all older. When my RCA?(ive forgotten the brand, some black plastic 149 dollar junker i bought at wally-world that only lasted six months before it broke and stunk like burned plastic) I watched everything on a b&w samsung my parents bought for my room when i was born, a 1982 model then, for around 4-5 months. But after a few days, i truly didnt care about the size or the fact it was in black and white.

My first TV was a cheap 13" B&W set I watched until the late 80s. Akira, Dominion Tank Police and Ramma 1/2 were some of the first anime I ever saw. Cowboy Bebop is the one that really got me hooked :)

Does Speed Racer count? Watched a lot of that on the CTC-40 some thirty years ago.

I would strongly suggest that you do read and watch them:) I know you don't have much room but you should try to find a metal table model color roundie to watch them on, it looks awesome! It looks cool on the Admiral too but cartoons need color:banana:


Yep, I used to watch Cowboy Bebop once in a while but just never payed much attention to anime until now.

I love anime and manga, I've read / watched a lot and my favorites are Cardcaptor Sakura, K-ON, Detroit Metal City, ARIA, Fate Stay Night, Love Hina, Cowboy Bebop and others. The first anime I watch on a TV was Cat's Eye in my Sony KV-1820E, in 1990. :)

If you think reading it was funny, you HAVE to watch it:D I like the "banana girl" part :smsex: and where she drinks the alcohol mixture in chemistry class and starts cloning. That had me rolling when the giant heard of Miharus tore through the shopping arcade and grocery store. Pink devils they were called.....LOL!

LOL - If you guys like that genre, I think you might like Azumanga Daioh. I suggest watching with subtitles though. They did a lousy job translating the humor into English.

I really like the darker, heavier stuff like S.E. Lain, Monster, Hell Girl, Death Note, Hunter X Hunter and Elfen Lied. Also fantasy like Slayers, Scrapped Princess and Berserk.

Really though, I'll watch just about anything :D

Monster is a great anime, but for Berserk I preferred read the manga.

If you like Elfen Lied, you have watch Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.
For manga, you can read Narutaru (pay attention, you can find a censored version, it's a very violent manga) or Bokura No (do not watch the anime, you must reading the manga, THAT is the real Bokura No)

I've been into anime for a long time. It is a big part of the reason that I started collecting vintage TVs, as strange as that may sound.
I got hooked about 10 years back when Yuu Yuu Hakusho first aired on cartoon networks now defunct Toonami lineup.
I've been Watching every anime that Adult Swim has run in the last 6 years or so(all that "fan service" in Neon Genesis Evangellion got me hooked big time), and discovered SYFYs line up back when they last broadcast the Ghost in the Shell movie Solid State Scociety(which was several years back), unfortunatly I tuned in at the end. sigh.
I remember being so excited when I learned of SYFYs lineup that I even had dreams in anticapation.

Untill reciently My family has never had a computer, and I am utterly amazed at what the web has avaliable. I've reciently gotten a chance to see subbed versions of stuff and I can say that it is very interesting to compare subs with dubs. Some dubs are very faithfull to the story and have good voice acting like Fooly Cooly, while others like Bible Black have such crummy voice acting in the dubs that I rather watch and the subbed version and deal with the reduction in awareness of the visual aspects that all that reading causes. Most of the manga I've read is the "H" stuff which the animated versions of (when they exist) are more difficult to find.

Zenithfan1, that is one hot avatar and is perhaps the only thing nice enough to replace that cool roundy. When you say "banana girl" are you refering to futanari?

The only TVs I own are tube and the only stuff I have time to watch is anime so you can guess what I use my (two roundys and two rectnagular) color sets are used for.

Untill I started visiting this forum I thought I was the only one on earth nutty enough to be into BOTH anime and tube electronics, however I doubt that anyone else but me has added Swing music to this ecclectic mix of tastes. With how into everything culturally and artifact wise in America circa the Swing era I am, my love of anime sort of almost makes me feel like I'm "sleeping with the enemy". Aah the list of Tom's internal contradictions increases.
