TRUE NEW IN BOX SEALED Sony KV-8000!
 

I just picked this 1975-ish Sony KV-8000 up (thanks to heads-up from Miniman82) :thmbsp:

I was expecting a "used set" put back in the box, which has most always been the case with "NIB" vintaqe TVs on eBay. However, this one really is unopened. I went over the box with a fine-tooth comb, and the original Sony paper tape is all intact, and the staples are still factory-cramped. I don't plan to open the box, but I'm so curious, that I'll do an endoscopic check on it. I think I can push the bottom flaps enough to pass an endoscope inside, and look around. If I get a chance, I'll do that today or tomorrow at the horse hospital.

I have one of those, not new of course! I used to use it in my camper with an external tuner to connect to the campground's cable. Nice little set.

sooo... you gunna open that nut? or just burry it in the yard for later?

Such a dilemma, I'd be aching to open it but on the other hand I'd want to keep it as a time capsule.
I'm weak willed though so I'd probably open it. :yes:

Not gonna open it!!!! But I did bring up the endoscope last night, and I'm going to cruise around inside the box (will take pics).

I do have another KV-8000 in fairly nice shape, so no need to put this one on display. I'm a "new in the box" nut for a lot of things, and in fact I almost bought a '78 Cadillac with 0.7 miles on it at auction in Reno... Still had the plastic on the seats & steering wheel, retail sticker still in the dealers packet strapped to the steering wheel (never taken out and put in the window), and the tires had rotted right off. Miraculously, the battery tray wasn't even corroded up. It had gone dead before it had a chance to emit any gasses. (engine was frozen up too).

What model Cadillac was it? Did it have a sunroof? What happened to it? Thanks,

It was an Eldorado Biarritz. Can't remember for sure if it had the "astro roof", but it probably did, since those were almost standard on the Biarritz. The story was that the owner of a Cadillac dealership had it put in storage as the "last big Cadillac" to be marketed, and he just left it there. I don't remember who got it, but it went way out of my price range.

There was a 1948-50 model Chevy ton panel truck w/something like 298 miles on it in "Hemmings" once, & the pics of it looked to be legit...IIRC, the guy wanted $15K for it, I almost bit, but WHAT do you DO w/something like that ?!? You couldn't drive it, then it would lose its value...

I'd park it next to my '86 Honda VF1000R with 291 miles... I won't replace the original tires, which are 100% rotten with pieces starting to fall off, and they don't make that brand/size since the 80s. And the original first-issue license tags are there (expired in '87), and I don't want to renew them. It's a real problem! I guess I could trailer something like these, to shows. Otherwise, it's just something to constantly maintain and look at, I guess (but then so are our TVs, LOL)

This Bad Boi still had the oilpaper on the floor in the back from the factory...I wish I'd gotten it, but I have too many "Monuments" that I can't /won't shoot or use as it is... One is a Belgian Browning BAR w/fitted case, hand-engraved "Coin" finish receiver, & the prettiest stock I think I've EVER seen on any gun...I take it out of the safe ever so often to remind myself that, Yes, I REALLY DO own it, drool a little bit, carefully wipe the handprints/drool off, & then put 'er back up...
