Parts List

Hi All
Does anyone have a parts list for a Motorola VT-71 (chassis TS-4J) the early version? I have the schematic. I have a Sams Photofact folder for the VT-71 and it has a parts list, but it doesn't match the schemtaic for an early TS-4J.
Thanks, If someone could help out it would be much appreciated. I've tried checking the internet, various forums, but I can't seem to locate any parts lists for the early TS-4J chassis. Carlpete50

Sams shows TS-4J as a VT-73. It was in Sams 71. Someone gave me some old Sams this weekend in various forms of degradation :) I'll look for it tomorrow.

The VT-71, including the parts list, is in Rider Vol 1 on the ETF site:

Thanks for the info. I'm in the process of figuring out what capacitors I'll need to get for my tv. Thanks for helping me out. Carlpete50

The Sams I have for the VT-73 (Set 71, Folder 12) says chassis "TS-4J Late."

I see a listing for a chassis TS-4B, model VT-71B (Set 55, Folder 16.)

Could the latter (55-16) be the earlier version you're looking for?

Part Lists

Hi Possibly I read on a forum that there are 2 variations of the TS-4J chassis. The person stated that to look at the contrast potentiometer. If it just has wires soldered to, its a early model. If it has capacitors & resistors soldered to it, its a later model. Mine is definitely the early model. I have the early schematic from Motorola, but the parts lists that I have don't match up to the schematic. Lot of the parts match up, but some of the resistors, capacitors on the schematic don't match up to the lists I have, as the numbers are too high and my parts lists don't go that high. I'm trying to do the best I can with what I have. Thanks

That just might have been me in this thread on my blonde VT71 project. It also has a TS-4J early chassis.

I scanned the schematic for the 4J early along with the parts list and some charts. You can find them here: http://www.bobandersen.com/images/VT71/

Part Lists

Hi To All
I think I have the same schematic & parts lists. If you look at your "Early #2" schematic you'll see C150, C151 capacitors and resistors R126, R127, etc to name a few. The parts lists only goes up to R125 for resistors and the capacitor list only goes up to C149. This is all new to me, as it is my first restoration. Am I missing something here? How come the parts list does not include resistors past R125 and capacitors past C149? Are these resistors & capacitors not in my television? Thanks to all for your help!

I see what you mean. The schematic came from a Wallace Telaide compendium of Motorola schematics. They do not include a parts list - only schematics.

I believe the parts list I scanned came from a Sams Photofact.

It's possible what you're looking doesn't exist because there were so many revisions of this chassis. Perhaps the TS-4J late is close enough to the early chassis you can work off of that Sams mentioned above ?

Otherwise, try working from the schematic I scanned. I don't think you really need a parts list anyway. The schematic shows the part value - you can also usually read it of the old parts too.

If you're not sure about any of the component value, just ask. We'll figure this out

Reading the values from the original capacitors is the best bet if you don't have a schematic that exactly matches your set. This article has photos and descriptions of various capacitors that should help you ID them:

As noted in the article, replace the electrolytic and paper caps (including any of the plastic-coated paper types). Don't just march down a parts list and replace everything labeled as a capacitor, since some types such as mica are generally pretty reliable. After replacing the electrolytics & papers, I usually try out the TV to see what else it might need.

I checked the earlier Sams and it doesn't show any caps or resistors numbered that high either.

Parts List

Hi
Thanks to AUdubon5425, Steve McVoy, bandersen and Phil Nelson for your help in trying to figure out this parts lists to schematic comparison. It is very much appreciated. I've seen some of the work you guys do and your tv's look like brand new and came off the storeroom floor. You guys should be proud of the work you do! It's nice to belong to a forum to have people like you that are willing to help out a person when there's a problem with restoring a television. Thanks again!
