Any value in all packaging?
 

I recently won the following eBay auction:

The TV came with everything, all packing material, plastic bags, manuals, etc. I might as well have purchased this TV in a retail store today!

But alas, I purchased the TV to place on my built-in bookcase, to show off and once in a while to use. I personally don't care about the box/packaging (I live in a tiny home in downtown Toronto and don't have space to store empty boxes).

So my question is, what do people think about what I'm about to do? i.e. put the box + packaging out in my recycling bin!!!

Save it, Absolutely!!

May not mean much to you now but I guarantee in the future some collector may value that more than the set itself! There are probably 1000 TV's like that for every Box.

I picked up this same set at Salvation Army for $20 (no packaging or accessories at all), that was a fluke, the $129 you paid is more realistic.
If you don't want your packaging I'll be glad to take it off your hands. :yes:

I picked up one of these recently, but the antenna was missing-it looks like it is removable from the auction ad? I didn't pay too much for it, but I'd kind of like it to have an antenna...

Neat little TVs. I'd pay you something (not a huge amount) for the box. I do have a place to put it, next to my pink set.

I got all the packaging, and accessories .. and hope this helps for those that don't know:

- The TV's antenna is removable
- When not installed, there's a plastic plug that goes where the antenna port is located (I can take pictures of it and show you how it looks!) so one can't see the hole.
- The manual fully describes all the accessories that come with it from the factory (included are antenna, 12V DC car adapter + manual, red pouch to hold accessories, UHV to RG-59 adaptor.

I'd be curious to see the how the antenna plugs in, as well as the cover plug, too. My set is pink, btw. It was totally filthy, so it needed a deep cleaning to get going properly. Taking the set apart, I can see how the one one Phil Nelson's site got a damaged yoke: the thin yoke leads are just hanging in midair, and can easily be broken. Mine now displays a very nice picture, there is a ton of detail in that little picture: I can even read the Comcast menus with it!

I was a runner-up bidder on that set... I'd have bid WAY more, had I known about the packing! I don't have a 3LS36 so I don't need the packing, but I'd advise you to keep it in case you ever want to sell the set. The original packing usually triples the price.

This photo shows the jacks on that side. The external antenna just takes a mini plug, as I recall.

The yoke wires weren't originally hanging in midair. Andy dug them out to find the break.

I am just curious,why are these sets so desirable?

I saw the auction but decided not to bid on it. Now that I see these better photos I kind of regret that! That's a pretty cute TV.

Couple of things...They are just too cute for words! They work well, and have an external A/V input, which is very useful these days.
Every time I look at my white one, I imagine a Pixar-style animation with several of these sets hopping around and nodding their "heads" in some sort of dialogue :D
Anybody got a Black one? My guess is that these are the rarest.

I am guessing these are from the 80's right?

I have seen them in thrift stores a couple times cheap,but they don't do anything for me personally so I've alway passed on them.

I guess it's as that old saying goes "one mans trash,is another mans treasure" but it's hard for me to believe people actually collect things from the 80's...now if someone found a 1957 Silvertone Suburbanite fiberglass portable or Sylvania Dualette in a thrift store and passed it by that would be just wrong:D:D

Living in downtown Toronto, I still have access to very strong UHF and VHF signal, and found a dozen strong stations.

There's something interesting about this TV, which video input doesn't show. When you tune the TV, there's a vertical bar (green or red, depending on UHV or VHF) which the TV chassis adds to the signal!!! There's also a button on the side called "CH recall" which pops the bar on screen to show what channel you're tuned to.

I've never seen this before .. TV's since have shown the channel number as on-screen number .. this one uses an analog tuner, but with on screen indicator. Very interesting.

There were a few small Rca portables that had that onscreen line indicator in the '80's.
I can't remember what models but they were smaller sets,13" screens I think.
