Unless you're one of us, who are knowledgeable about vintage electronics, an old TV almost for sure will not be in working condition, and few people have room for an inert wooden box. Antique furniture really doesn't have much that can't be fixed by most people (tables, chairs, cabinets, bookcases and such) and thus are more usable by the average person.
And Grandma may not have the ability to physically remove the big console TV from the living room, and (if it has doors) leave them shut. And puts a white knit cloth thing and a lamp or such atop it.
