Antenna TV?
 

Does anyone have any knowledge about something called "Antenna TV"?

The only online info that I have been able to find without a virus hitting my computer is that it's supposed to be a service similar to Retro TV and will run on Tribune Co. O&O OTA stations starting January 3.

Coming Jan 1 2011 here. Will show lots of old TV shows looks like.

We'll have Antenna TV on 33.2, and This TV on 33.3. On 31.3 we have Hot TV, and RTV on 31.4. Plenty of old programming to watch!

I just heard a commercial for it on WGN AM 720. It's will be available over the air and on Comcast cable. I noticed that WCIU is tweaking it's classic TV sub channel line up too. It will be interesting to see how the two networks compete.

We have "thistv" here in ny, but the bit rate must be very low because when ever there is fast action on the screen the picture blurs into large squares. They have sooo many really strange old movies I don't ever remember seeing. And Elvira's BBB rated scary movies so bad they are funny, them boring. I hope we get a few more like this out of nyc.

I wonder if "Antenna TV" will show up here in northern Ohio any time soon, as a subchannel of one of the network stations. THIStv is on a subchannel of Cleveland's MyTV affiliate (every weekend the station shows a movie from THIS), but to date there is nothing else on the cable here having to do with old TV programming (meaning no RTV or RTN anywhere near here -- the nearest RTN affiliate is 120 miles away, and not carried on the cable in my area).

I guess that leaves me only one choice for retro TV programming -- Netflix. I've had a subscription to it for five years and have enjoyed it (I'm on the 3-DVD out a month unlimited plan), but I just read an article this afternoon on the Internet (on ZDNet's website, IIRC) that Netflix is eventually going to phase out DVDs in favor of streaming video. Ordinarily that wouldn't bother me, but I live on a fixed income (disability) and cannot afford the fancy new equipment I'm sure I would need to continue receiving Netflix's movies over the Internet. My current TV is 11 years old and still works every bit as well as when it was new; my DVD player is only about two years old and also continues to operate quite well. What are people such as myself supposed to do when (not if) Netflix finally stops its DVD rental service because it has gone to 100-percent streaming video over the Internet? There are still plenty of folks around here, and across the United States as well, with DVD players and active subscriptions to Netflix; if the DVD rentals end, it will leave a lot of these people with DVD players they can't use. Many people today have Blu-ray players that cost an arm and a leg, compared to DVD players; these folks won't be too happy, either, when they find out that BR disc rentals are no longer available from Netflix, which is one of only two or three DVD rental services still in operation in the US.

Antenna TV will be carried in the Cleveland area on channel 8.2 beginning on January 1, 2011 and it will be carried on Time Warner Cable beginning on January 2.
I read somewhere that Antenna's programming on January 1 will start with a marathon of the Three Stooges followed by a marathon of the Benny Hill Show.

Of course, we'll probably be the last area in the country to get it, if we even get it at all. If we do get it, they'll probably dump it in a year and replace it with the usual sludge daytime programming, just like they did with RTV.

Wow. We'll have RTV, ThisTV and AntennaTV! Now if only an AM station would return to an easy-listening format...

When I first saw this topic in the list, I was afraid it could be someone asking about some mysterious TV service who was unaware that you could get TV signals without any cable or satellite hookup.

I filled to subchannel 9.2 today and saw this :)

Nope, that's just my camera being out of sync with the CRT refresh. It's a 2005 RCA secureview prison set.
