19" Packard-Bell "Astronaut" B&W w/ missing yoke
 

Here's a neat looking 19" Packard-Bell "Astronaut" metal cabinet B&W portable that I brought back from SC. It is a tube set that uses a hand wired power transformer driven chassis and it looks to be from the mid '60's. Unfortunately, the deflection yoke is missing and I can't find any model or chassis number to look up a replacement. If someone has a yoke or knows what yoke this set uses, I'd appreciate the help. Also, the CRT was almost dead; but, it came up a little when I rejuvenated it. I suspect a CRT for this set would be much easier to find than the CRT for that '72 Sharp color TV.

While cleaning out, I found this TV and looked at it some more.

Does anyone have Sams 845-1, even if you don't want to sell it? I need to know the part numbers for the various deflection yokes that will work in this set. Once I have that information, maybe I can track down a yoke. Once I get the set working, I can then track down a 19DQP4 CRT.

They must have made the astronaut for several years, I have a really old one that uses a 5u4.
How did the crt check? I cant imagine where the yoke would have gone. It will probably need little more than that. They use very good caps.

The CRT is almost dead; but, I hope I can find a good tube once I get the rest of the TV going. Normally, I would not be going to such effort on a '60's 19" B&W; but, this set is an interesting looking set and it's not like Packard-Bell TV's turn up everyday.

I've seen a lot of those in the Los Angeles area, since they were made in West LA. It's an RCA licensing lab circuit, so there is a good chance that an RCA yoke might work. Being a tube set, there's a little bit of wiggling room as far as the impedance of the windings. Just be sure it's for a 110-degree tube, and uses a similar tube lineup.

Interesting point on the RCA licensing. All of the color PBs we acquired have parts that are interchangeable with the ctc17 style chassis. They are basically RCA clones with a few minor mods to the circuits.

I pulled the chassis just to look inside and it looks like this set was built in late '66. The chassis is fairly clean inside. I suspect that the CRT failed in this set and they used the yoke to fix another TV.
