My First Post . . . .
 

I'm moltogordo, a close friend of Red Raster. He got me into this nonsense by asking me to photograph his collection of TV's to document them. So I've seen some of this forum in the past, and joined because I've developed an interest in old TV's through my buddy. Now, I'm not a totally obsessed head case like some of the forum members here (of course in the best sense!!!:D) but I'll get there, given time.

In the meanwhile, I'd like to show you the first photo I've done for RR, an old Admiral b&w that is one of my faves in his collection. I have a bit more editing/cleanup to do on the photo, but it's given here as my first post. Thanks!

Very nice set. I've never seen a wood cabinet example in person, their bakelite cased cousins must be a lot more common.

That one looks like a keeper. Welcome to the forum. It's always fun to see what sort of TVs are out there.

WELCOME Moltogordo! TVs can be fascinating to learn about, repair/restore and collect. I've been at it since I was 12, when I convinced my parents that I wasn't going to kill myself with high voltage. That was in 1964 lol. Only been zapped twice. One learns quickly and well!
Have a great time building your knowledge and collection, and know that you can count on the good folks here, and on other forums, for advice, and for a shoulder to cry on if something goes wrong.

Yes it is a nice set but your set is not something to be ashamed of!

I admire someone who can take a picture like that...I just don't have the knack for it.

I'd love to get organized enough to get some nice pictures of all my stuff. I have professional photo gear and supposedly know how to use it, but alas, no good pics of my junque. :(

I'll be interested in seeing more of your photos.

Photos are easier than you might think.

1. For the background, an old bedsheet or blanket works fine. Push a card table against the wall and pin the blanket up so it drapes over the table.

2. Turn off your camera's flash. A tripod is helpful for slow shutter speeds.

3. It may help to bring in another lamp or two for indirect lighting. Position carefully to avoid glare.

It's trickier to get good photos of the TV playing, but that's all it takes for your basic photo.

Thanks to one and all for your comments! I'll be posting photos frequently with my posts, whenever they occur. I'm doing Red Raster's collection, and I'll do some of mine (pitiful though it might be) as well.

I put myself through university as a photographer and darkroom rat, so it's second nature now. I did mostly fashion and jewellry, so maybe I'll get down into those circuits with my macro lenses, as well!!
