19" Color portable $35

I think that's a C-1 chassis hybrid set. And, not too many 19" GE tube color sets show up. I've probably only had 2 or 3 in the 20+ years that I've been doing this. The reason they probably don't show up is because they didn't hold up near as well as an RCA or Zenith.

That's such a rotten, horrible, unreliable terrible hunk-a-junk chassis, that I should go get it and put it in the back seat of my Cadillac 350-Diesel. What a perfect pair; the worst color TV and the worst GM engine!

I remember seeing those sets in Holiday Inns back in the day and even a friend of mine aquired one from somewhere...I recall the HV Rectifier tube as being one of those leaded/shielded types.

Typical cheapie GE construction with lots of plastic...maybe something to barter on if it actually plays decient. Doesn't look beat up either.

I have one and it aint that bad. The hv can is open with a lead shielded tube. Dont let it go to the junk pile, I would take it. Its a fairly heavy set.

IIRC, Mark (Zenithfan) has the '75 version of this set. I wonder if GE made that set any later than '75.

I used to have that exact model set. Resolder all the sockets and it should keep on going. Had a half decent picture until the red cathode went open :(

With Krylon and drills, no doubt.

I have a couple of these that I got from JCFitz. There is no excuse for a TV set built like these. I've said it several times: in my pile of Photofacts there is one that stands out, all tattered and torn, coffee-stained and covered in notations, and that is the Sams for this set. Got that from the local GE dealer...job security, when they sold those new!

This kind of reminds me of a story an old radioman told me years ago:

He claimed that GE produced a portable tube/hybrid that was so poorly designed that one of the hotter tubes basically butted up against the back of the plastic case, causing a huge hole to melt through over time. Any particular sets come to mind that were known for this?

Magnavox made a hybrid color portable in the early 70's where the 30mc6 hor. out. would melt a hole in the back. Those things would actually make GE look good.

Gosh yes, I remember seeing a few of those... Makes the opportunity to pick up that GE look more attractive!
