Sony 16:9 XBR CRT at GW today.

There was a Sony KV34XBR910 with the ultra fine pitch tube at Goodwill today for $119. I didn't try it to see how well it worked but it looked nice.
This was a $2000+ set back in 2003! If I had room and a good back I would have liked to get it but.... Stock photo: |
I have one of those, and also the rarer 30" version... Great set, and if it's clean, it's a steal. I'd take it if it were closer, just for spare parts if nothing else. But watch out for shadow mask damage. Those are very easy to bang, and get a color blotch that won't go away.

I JUST fixed one of those thursday. had the all too familiar failure of the shendengen IC MCZ3001D in the HV circuit.
had a nice picture, and was HD too. Also has a subwoofer centered above the CRT yoke, and its attached to CRT straps. but it took 3 people to carry the gawd awful thing. weighs 50 billion pounds. |
Go get it and store it for the day you can be a glass HDTV historian. It should be very happy playing Blu-ray. I have the 960 version with the built-in tuner and watching Boise St on their bizarre blue turf field.
And in my historic storage is my ballpark's first plasma. A Sony 50" from 1999. All $12,000 worth when new. Maybe $500 now. Same 200 pounds. |
I'd be surprised if it's still there now, GW seems to do a good business in CRT sets, they sell them very reasonable compared to other Thrifts in the area and they often have better sets than the common Apex crap.
