Rca ctc-179 cl
Is anyone familiar with problems for this model powering up by itself and randomly searching channels? It was in the room alone and it just came on.
I checked the timer/scheduler/guide and all was off, it also was randomly scrolling the adjustment menus. I checked the buttons and no buttons were stuck I even removed the batteries from the remote and it still was changing channels/scrolling menu. I unplugged then restarted it and it works fine ATM. Is there a known history of these doing this? It has now done it 2 additional times |
Pull the chassis out, remove bottom tuner cover then resolder all tuner grounds, replace six tact switches on the front panel. These original tact switches leak and known problem to old techs.

switches on front .simply disconnect the front control panel and see it that cures your problem. sometimes the switches get a little leaky or someone has cleaned the front of the tv and some liquid has got on them. steve

Ok I will give it a try it has become a very annoying now I have to keep it unplugged or it comes on about every 15 minutes. I think it is strange it can keep a channel locked in while the display shows channels are being changed but no control of volume or channels while it is freaking out like that.

Still have to change all the tact switches first and do the grounds on the tuner. Just like the CTC175-7 were. Real money maker back then.

When they were new, I soldered alot of CTC 175-177 chassis. I've still got a 175 that works and looks great. It's only had the cable connector ripped out of it about 5 times, and never by me!
A lot of strange symptoms can be cured by soldering the tuner. |
