Hmmmm wonder why he gutted the cabinet?? :scratch2:

Probably for a fish tank or some flat screen piece of crap. That seems to be the theme lately lol.

freakaftr8 05-05-2010 12:50 AM

My sentiments exactly...

jstout66 05-05-2010 09:44 AM

dang.... It's older than a CTC-38/39. Look at the tube lay-out. Also it looks like it has solid state audio. What chassis did RCA do that on? CTC-24 or 25?

captainmoody 05-05-2010 12:05 PM

Looks like it's a CTC-21 with power tuning.

The CTC39 came out in 1974. It was RCA's usual quest to use up old stock and was sold regionally to furniture stores etc.

C'mon Julian, are you slipping? LOL! We are both old tv guys, and have repaired a few of these buggers! At first glance of the photo, it looks like a CTC39 with what looks like the inside part of the control door to the right.
Not so, though. What you actually see is the chassis mounted bracket with color controls, etc. Further to the right, is the motor and relays for the power tuning control. Also notice the heatsink for the audio output transistor (next to power trans)
This would be a nice parts or replacement chassis to have. Someone in the area should grab it.

Chassis layout. CTC 21 or 30. Can't tell which, as photo is not that detailed. But it looks like it has the screen, etc controls mounted to the pc board instead of the chassis like a 21
Would love to get this chassis and parts, but just can't justify a 300mi round trip for something I might use.

julianburke 05-06-2010 07:18 AM

I stand corrected, now go get it!

captainmoody 05-06-2010 07:49 AM

LOL! Seriously though, we used to make money fixing this stuff, now we buy it needing repair!

JB5pro 05-08-2010 10:54 PM

Seems like that would be well woth getting for other sets...

especially if he will give up the CRT frame.

captainmoody 05-09-2010 08:02 AM

I see the crt bezel in the background, so if someone had a cabinet they could most likely put it all back together.
What a shame..When people gut these sets, then turn them into a bar or fish tank, they just end up thrown away a few months after the fad wears off.
Another thing, even when someone makes it into a "bar" or "book shelf" it still looks like it used to be a tv! It just looks stupid!
