Looks B/W to me, mid 60's

tube (CRT) geometry sure looks like a 60's vintage monochrome

B&W... They did have a color set that looked very much like that control lineup, but this one isn't.

well if it was color and within driving distance I would be all over it like a cheap suit.

My folks had a color PB with nearly identical control layout, but I have seen pics of black & white PBs that confirm Charles' statement about them being a dead ringer for the color sets. I cast my lot with those saying it's black & white.

The Sams shows the controls on the B&W as being: top left = on-off/vol, top right = contrast & bright, bottom left = horiz hold, bottom right = vert hold.

I can't make out the printing on the set, and I sure wouldn't want to mislead anyone, but I'm standing firmly with B&W. On the color set, there's a small white degauss button centered in the control panel, about where this set has the "PB" badge.

Model 23DC23A; Sams 747 folder 3 has that same chassis & control panel, but different cabinet. I did a match-up to get a model # from my Packard-Bell factory manual. I'm missing all of the tuner subchassis supplements from my PB binders, so I had to take the model # and go to Sams.

Thanks. I was wondering how you found the set. Searching through all the Sam's for their pictures would have been a monstrous waste of time!

The AM/FM tuner has a rather unique tuning dial. With those dial pointers crossing each other, I bet the mechanism is a nightmare to work on, especially to restring if need be. I would guess it has at least two dial cords, one for AM, the other for FM (if the two tuners were controlled independently of each other, which I doubt) if it is set up for the old (and now long obsolete) AM/FM stereo broadcasting standard. I would think, however, that both tuners are controlled by one knob, as this console looks far too new to have had AM/FM stereo; it probably, almost certainly has the industry-standard multiplex system for stereo FM.
