I suppose that's because of the womans image :scratch2:

Wow! that is not your usual 2F21 (Indian head) or 1699 (custom) monoscope tube. I think that i have seen the womans picture before in articles about early tv... I am looking, and will post if i find something on this tube and when it was used.

Is that tube being powered up to get that image or can it be seen with it off?

Never mind, I see where it is.

Yes it is suppose to be a nude photo of her, this is why it is rare, you can see the outline of her breasts.

The monoscope has been identified as the "Girl's Head" type 1898 by CRT historian Peter Keller who sends these scans of the data sheet:

A little information here:

Thanks Pete!

Dave Johnson demo'd his monoscope that he nicknamed "The Lady in the Bottle" back at the first Early Television Convention. (Certainly not something you see every day!)

If I recall correctly, Dave's monoscope was not a RCA tube. Please correct me if I am misremembering.

Don't remember, John. It's definitely a different lady in that bottle.

Yet another lady? This article shows a small 2" monoscope that produces an image of actress Joan Blondell made for/by the American Television institute. The display screen looks a little phony, IMHO :scratch2: However, it does appear to match the image that can (sorta) be seen at the front of the monoscope tube.

Unfortunately one link in the article does not appear to work
