'75 Sears 9" Sears/Toshiba AC/DC B&W
 

About 1.5 years ago, I got this set from Audubon5425, who picked it up at a thrift store and then passed it along to me. It's a '75 9" Sears solid state AC/DC B&W set. It has a model code of 562 and isn't that the code for Toshiba?

This set will run on AC, an internal battery pack, or a DC car cord. I don't have the DC cord; but, it looks like a common cord that was found with these portables and the battery pack is missing (would likely be dead, anyway).

The only thing I find wrong with this set is that the fine tuning mechanism has an issue. The FT knob turns; but, it does not engage the actual FT control.

Since the battery is missing, I'm thinking of sticking the insides of a DTV converter in the location for the battery and I hope I can find the correct voltages on the chassis to operate the converter. Then, I'll come up with a 12V power cord and this will become my new "emergency" TV.

This 9" AC/DC set reminds me of a GE we had when I was growing up. It was a 9" AC/DC B&W in a leather case and it dated from the early '70's. It also took a large rechargeable battery that fit in the bottom of the set. We tried to get a battery in the late '80's, without luck. So, I cut off the battery plug and wired a 12V cigarette lighter cord to it. I finally sold the set in the mid '90's when the CRT was starting to get weak. BTW, that set had "instant on" when used on AC. I hope to find another one some day.

EDIT: Why did I feel the need to mention "Sears" twice in the title. It must be the fact that it's getting late and I'm thinking about the upcoming SC trip.
