'69 Zenith combo on ebay
The decimal point is in the wrong place; but, still a nice one that's worth keeping an eye on.

He says it cost $875 new. The inflation Calculator says What cost $875 in 1969 would cost $5063.00 in 2009.
I cant imagine paying $5k for a tv but I did grow up in the days of press board and China. Nice combo |

stuff used to cost money REAL money (back when borrowing rates were in the 10% plus for mortgages). I remember paying 800$ in 1979 for a VHS VCR... Back then you did not have cable broadcasting a jillion channel with on demand programming so if you wanted to watch an episode of the twilight zone you had to stay up till 1:00 AM or get a VCR.
I like the idea of well made, quality stuff that is repairable vs made in china junk that will fill our landfills with toxic waste... That looks like a nice set, yea 250$ is a lot (I got one like that for 25 recently) but if its in nice shape I would get it if I had the space. when you consider the value of the dollar, 250 is a bargin. Thats a few fillups at the gas station, and maybe a few cheap lunches. But since demand is low it will prob not sell unless he goes a LOT lower. |
Needs doors to hide the vulgar CRT and knobs.
Somehow, although I like old consoles just fine without doors, it just looks crummy when combos don't have doors. |
yea doors are nice. I like my Maggies for that, the early ones were understated, had nice doors, and used the stereo amp and speakers for the TV.

It looks like it has a replacement CRT. That ups the probability for high hours and hack repairs. Original tube would have green halo.
I do like this one though, doors or not. Danish modern cabinets have always been top choice for me. |
