Found a Magnavox console TV, appears to be a Tube/SS hybrid.
 

Sitting just 2 houses down from where I live. Saw the green halo around the edge of the CRT and knew it was old. A couple dates written on the back are both from 1971. Decided to bring it home for two reasons, one to see just what I found, and two, maybe someone here may want it?

All I know is it's a Maggie that's old enough to drink and then some. I didn't want to see it go to the dump. I'd like to see it go to someone who would care more about it then I do. A neighbor said it still works, but the cord was cut, and I don't wanna chance plugging it in anyway for fear of very old caps failing or something along those lines.

Nice! It looks like a remote set. I have a '68 T933 chassis magnavox that needs a recap and I need to get back on it.

I had a set with a similar cabinet for several years in my bedroom on top of a dresser. Those 6X9 speakers sounded great!

magnvox had the most ornate and fine looking cabinets.that is a pretty decent set.any hybrid or early solid state is really decent quality.that set should be a keeper!

Yeah I'm sure it's a decent set, which is why I don't want it to end up getting crushed in a garbage truck. I plan on holding onto it for a couple weeks and see if I can get someone here to take it. I don't have room for the darn thing and tube TV's don't really catch my interest.

Unfortunately too far for me. My other half is from Detroit.

I remember my Maggie having a bad focus resistor when I got it. The then owner didn't think it was worth a repair, but it was, and I got about 8 years out of it before the flyback cooked.

I like the Maggie cabinets as well, plus they had good sound systems, on the consoles they would use the stereo amp for TV sound, many of my other make of consoles seem to skimp there and just use the little built in speaker for the TV, rather than use the stereo speaker and amp.

On the remote amp box to the left of the chassis, is there a remote gain control? If so, with the set working, you could crank that thing up and jingle car keys to change channels. My TV-repairman-Dad demonstrated that with a customer once - and Dad went back a few months later to replace the pot - the customer had duplicated the "trick" a few times for friends and family and destroyed the pot in the process.

The HV rectifier cup/socket on those was very prone to arcing. I'd clean it up good with some alcohol and let it dry out before I fired that sucker off. Eby made the cups/socket - either pink or green in color. They are still around, making all sorts of sockets and assorted hardware for the electronics industry. An American company that didn't sell out or outsource to the Asians!

i had a sylvania superset (E-48) remote that i used my keys to operate.it was wild and my kids were wee folk then.they thought i was "magic dad" for a long time.but then again,i would perform "magic" in the car at redlights and make then turn green too.
a zenith clanger remote would work on the sylvania too.i used one for a year or two until my oldest son dropped it in the bathtub.i couldnt perform "magic" on that.they started to suspect something right about that time.

If anyone's willing to come get it, shoot me a PM. Yeah I think it could be a great set. That green halo would drive me insane if I kept the thing for myself. I know it's the safety glass separating from the CRT and can be fixed, but I do not have the time, know how or tools to fix this issue myself. Best that I give it to someone who has the time, know how and tools to restore it.
