Glad to see classic TV now on DVD
 

I've been collecting DVD box sets of 1970s TV series for some time, since I grew up in that decade and watched a lot of those shows, such as Kojak, Quincy, M.E., The Odd Couple, et al. (I now have season one of Kojak, seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Quincy, and season 2 of The Odd Couple on DVD, not to mention a few classic films.) In fact, I just ordered from Amazon.com season three of the 1970s detective series Mannix. However, I found out (too late, darn it!) that the series won't be released on DVD until the end of this month, which means I won't be getting the box set until near the end of October at the earliest. Oh, well. Gives me something to look forward to. I'll enjoy my other DVDs (which have episodes of their series I haven't seen in years, but am now looking forward to seeing) until then.

I am so glad many classic TV series, movies, etc. are now or soon will be on DVD. IMHO, Hollywood made better TV shows 35-40+ years ago than a lot of the stuff that today passes for comedy, drama, etc. Today's comedy routines are using things such as four-letter words and other crude techniques not even thought of 40 years ago to pass for humor (although I do realize that four-letter words were used on sitcoms starting in the early seventies--I think The Mary Tyler Moore Show was one of the first sitcoms in which 4-letter words, except f-bombs of course, were written into the scripts). Dramas were better four decades plus ago as well, IMHO, as most of those shows had definite beginnings and endings. Too many of today's TV dramas and motion pictures are cliffhangers or otherwise have no definite ending point. I think Hollywood does this for a reason--so that the viewer can decide for himself or herself how the story should end.

I love watching the old shows on DVD, I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, Adam 12,Dragnet, Get Smart...

Disappointing they have only released two seasons of Leave It To Beaver, I wish they would just release an entire series in one big Box Set like they did with Get Smart for example, that way you don't have to worry about whether or not they will come out with the rest later.

Word is that the entire Boris Karloff Thriller series is coming out soon. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

Old shows on dvd is all I watch on my sets. I like that Mannix too, I just discovered it by mistake, my wife signed us up for this netflix thing, and I ordered Rockford (seasons 4-5, I have 1-3), and I got Mannix instead. But I watched it and it's great, and I like that modified Olds Toronado he has.

It just never seemed worth it to me to pick up one of those digital converter boxes, every time I went to buy one, I ended up buying more dvds instead. I do occasionally watch some new stuff, but I just watch it over the internet.

I don't know why some shows take so long to come out on dvd. Maverick is an old show I really like that they only put a few episodes out on dvd. They finally got all of Bewitched out (my favorite to watch on a roundie), but it took them a long long time in between seasons. But then other times, like with the Twilight Zone, I don't want to buy the super-expensive box set, but if they had offered single seasons in $40 or so increments, I probably would have bought them all by now anyway.
